theres a really great non-toxic rust remover mentioned in this video:

I restore lots of tools and items without bead-blasting them. Right now, I have some Xcelite mini clamps and a robo-grip pliers sitting in 3-in-1 oil because they had some light surface rust.

Proceeded cleaning up the lamp and revealed the engravings on the copper mounting plate some more...
I already guessed this to be a print plate...I am pretty sure it is! To be more specific, it seems to be the print plate for a CHECK of the Broadbend Co. from the late 19th century!! It has blank fields to add Pounds, Schilling and Pence plus signatures

LOVE this hidden detail!

Got me a canister full of that stuff, but will probably have the lamp bead blasted anyway

Thanks buddy!

Don’t touch these. Actually, don’t even look at them.

To late! Thanks so much for posting these pictures. Very helpful in getting the details correct. Question if you don’t mind. What’s the height of this part? If I was a guessing man I’d put it around .050/.060 of an inch. ?

I'll do you one better and model one up in the next couple days if you like. Surprisingly, the chamfer isn't at 45 degrees, it's steeper. The lens is 11.35mm x 11.25mm at the base, 10.3mm x 10.5mm at the top (or very close to it, difficult to measure with a caliper), and 1.5mm high. The box itself is 12.6mm x 12.4mm, 11mm high.

Much appreciated! I honestly got it pretty close. .5in by .5in with the hight at .425. The hight of the plastic top I have at .05in. I can’t remember the numbers for the top at the moment but I do have the angle steeper than 45. Thanks for getting back to me :)

Remember the vintage USAF lamp I purchased? …

I finally had it bradblasted to get rid of rust and old paint and started repainting it

The closest RAL color I could find is 1006 Corn-Yellow

Already used two cans, but will probably need at least two or three more to get an even coverage

At least some progress, taking advantage of the great weather :)
