odd part help needed: vaccum tubes

Yes I said vaccum tubes. Anyone know of a way to replicate them as I haven't a clue where to find any. I know there are still some out there floating around. Even if i can find casts of them or a mold of them.

I would check with a music shop an see if they have any old ones taken out of tube amplifiers.

Hi CC,
I'm assuming this is for a Tesla gun project?
I've been grabbing up old radio's at yard sales, $1-5 ea. Picked up two more this month!
I can ship you a few "close but not right" ones if you want to try casting them, or grab a few plastic test tubes and get creative!
Cheers, Jeff

actually they're for a bunch of Fallout projects. I need 2 for a the waterchip and a bunch for the eyebots. The one has armored tubes so those i can fudge. I hadn't thought of test tubes though. I think someone is making tubes still for people who restore radios but i bet they're expensive.

i'm not even sure of what the sizes actually i was just going to wing it as i found them lol. I'll get some photos and rough ideas together asap though. Now i wish i'd tore down all those old tvs we had. Never had any radios with tubes. Well we have one but my family would kill me if i tore it apart.

:lol
Death is so permanant.
I've got a buddy with a box of tubes, he let me grab a few for my Tesla gun, and the others will get sold at his next yard sale.
I'll try to "finagle" the rest out of him before they get lost into obscurity.:eek
Cheers, Jeff

lol. i would even if you can get him to sell them to you at a discount you never know when another project calling for them comes up like the hood box for a delorean time machine.

I hear they got some over at Vault 8. Just rip them off of the water chips...

Cobalt, you can find original vacuum tubes online, but they're pretty expensive. I'm thinking you could find some small glass containers at a dollar store, get some cheap light bulbs and take the guts out and piece together bits and pieces?

Possibly even add some small battery powered LED's to make them glow a bit?

I've been picking them up on Ebay, got a lot of 100 for somewhere around 35 bucks with shipping included, but you can also get specific ones of various shapes & sizes (mostly smaller). many of the ones i got in the lot were old/used, so whether they work isn't a real concern, and they have the old used look to them, which are perfect for Fallout universe props.

search "vacuum tube lot" and it should pull up some good results :)

lol. Some of these could be handy later on because i'm making a bunch (I hope) of 1:1 scale fallout robots and i'd love to make some guts for them. Though i'm not quite sure how the robots technically work on vacuum tubes. The plastic test tubes would probably be a good bet too to prevent breaking and since i don't really need them to light up and if i do i can use an LED. Just goes to show that folks still need them even though they're 50 years out of date.
That's a better pic of the water chip than the one I got from the official artwork.

I've got a bunch of florists flower tubes, they look a fair bit like a vacuum tube when cut down a bit and inverted. They're cheap too. They look just like a test tube, but with no markings, and a rubber bit to stick the flower in. I've been tempted to make a steampunk style gun with one ;).

Hope this helps someone.

Actually those are a good idea too. I bet they cost half as much as any of the other parts. I'mma swipe them next time my dad gets mom flowers lol. Those would be good for other items too.

I'll grag a few tomorrow.

lol. I'm glad you just reminded me i have to get my plastic shot glasses out for my display (since i'm not needing them for post surgery stuff) and i have to dig out my one glass and get a plastic martini glass too.
