Nylon Plastic Mesh question?

Anyone use plastic mesh or metallic mesh much?

I'm wondering what the smallest mesh that someone can look through is? The end result is something that looks like white comic-book eyes for Deadpool/Spidey/Batman etc.

Small Parts rates this stuff in microns...and microns are .00039 inches or 1/1000th of a millimeter. A human hair is 100-150 microns so it'd need to be larger than that.

I don't know what micron rating porch screens are, but I'm thinking somewhere between 300-1000 might work?

I was hoping someone knew more about this before I ordered a whole bunch of samples.

Anyone know?

I've heard of people suggesting using a plain white t-shirt for that effect. From what I've read you should be able to see through it just fine because it's so close to your eyes. The nice thing about it is that it's easy to test, just put one layer of a white t-shirt to your face and see how well you can see through it.

Thanks. Tried that with several shirts and it didnt work. I'm ordering samples of plastic mesh now.

Anyone else have any experience?

Please keep me updated because I'm definitely interested in this as well. I've been trying to recreate the white lenses from the TDK cowl at the end scene.

You could take a coarser mesh and cover it with a georgette. This is a very light fabric but should be just dense enough to not see through from the outside. Crepe georgette is another in the same family, the texture is a little rougher though. This will also be fluid enough that you should be able to drape it over a slightly domed shape with care.

I've used wire mesh from craft stores in the past. But if you do find some fabric for a comic-esque pure white PLEASE let us know!

The wire mesh at Hobby Lobby and Michaels is too broad. You can totally see the wire after painting...even if you use two layers. Looking for something that looks like a flat white surface.

I'll try the cheesecloth and the georgette.
