Nurf Mods

I've never tried my hand at props (I'm more of a costume person) but I have a costume coming up that is very reliant on having two props. I thought I would go the easiest way and start with two toys as my bases and mod them. Problem is, I have no clue where to start (when I say no clue, I'm serious, I was one of those kids that NEVER took apart my toys). Can someone point me in the direction of a reliable source for help modding a Nurf gun? I've seen tons of webpages but I do not have the time or money to get started and find out the directions/advice I am following is massively flawed. I'm working on the Zombie Sidearm and a new Hasbro Lightsaber.

I would also say googling will yield plenty of build pages on how to take things apart..etc..etc..

take the time to read up on things...

Quick, without doing a search, what does NERF mean?

Many sites allege that it's an acronym for "Non-Expanding Recreational Foam". However, inventor Reyn Guyer’s website explains that Parker Brothers named the balls after the foam "nerf pads" that off-road drivers used to wrap their rollbars. So with respect to the foam toys it really doesn't mean anything, beyond the original meaning of the slang word "nerf", which is a verb meaning "to make car-to-car contact" in dirt-track racing.
