Nova (Annihilation) mini photoshoot 2/23

sadly i had to disassemble and cast aside my iron patriot suit since moving into a complex they probably wouldnt take to kindly t sawing and constant drilling si im going with what i oriignally wanted to do for the Emerald City Comicon.

any suggestions for where to start are welcome im currently gathering reference pics and researching materials for the bulk of the suit.

I guess where you start depends on your vision for the suit. Some people are fine with spandex, some people like the "super hero movie" look with leathers and whatnot. Personally I like the look of the bottom pic with the faded, dull colors. To me I think for such a simple costume design, you should accentuate the simplicity with some texture. If not a nice leather look, then perhaps a thickly woven canvas/denim with sewn-in or piped details and hard plastic armor parts would be something you might consider.

im leaning more towards pleather. im more familar with after this tron jacket i made and im also thinking of doing the suit in two peices with the seam hidden under the belt just for ease of sewing.
and lycra spandex sewn over craftfoam for the muscle design on the chest.
and i still have about 5 sq. ft of white abs plastic from the patriot suit.

and lighting im thinkng touch lights cramed with led rope

as much as i hate saying it nova and the nova corps. is pretty much a marvel version of green lantern and his corps.

i found a pattern im going to use for the bulk of the suit

im praying and hoping a local fabric store has pleather in royal blue

and im not sure how to go about the armor im thinking of just taking my snips and cutting them out of the abs i have and heat gunning them to the shape i need...any suggestions?

the helmet will be THE hardest part of the suit.
i have a mannequin head covered in craft foam that im thinking of putting to work by adding more foam and shaving it down with a coping saw and get it with filler to make the shape i want than taking it down a table saw to cust it in half and vac forming it.

or i was going to build it from scrapes like my road warrior style helmet with a bmx bike helmet and copper

but with nova id add more along the edges since his helmet is pretty much a spartan style helmet but without the open eyeholes

I say go black instead of blue.

That way you can get a cheap pre-built shiny lycra suit that has the leathery look to it and then just add foam chest armor on top like the thor armor above.

really? you think black? itd be kind of a strecth from richard rider nova itd end up looking a lot more like garthan saal

and ive been sifting through milanoo weighing out wether i want to order one or not but my only problem is the shipping since ive only made my choice yesterday it leaves me about a month to get the suit going and milanoo takes awhile and would be pushing it
but its funny you fiound that i was looking at that same one yesterday

Black is just easier. You don't have to go through the trouble of finding the proper fabric color then the a matching paint color for the chest armor.

Also, The plasti-dip spray used on the Thor armor craft foam only comes in black and bright colors.

If you have the patience and time to sew stretch pleather then I say go for it.

I'm just a sucker for easy.

i have seen his helmet and i love it i sent him a pm yesterday havent heard back. i was thinking if i couldnt make one myself and i had to buy itd be one of his haha

and i decided on blue lycra spandex itll have a comic look to it rather than navy blue cover art versions just picked it up and cutting the patterns out

this is the fabric ill be using and i chose a nice blue blue

ive began cutting the fabric going to try and get most of it before i slumber

Man, I'm excited to see this. I'm actually thinking of doing a classic styled Nova...but this looks great. Can't wait to see it.

do it haha i just love the new nova suit so much
and im about 30 percent done with the body suit

i have a question and problem about ways to get my aluminum sheet cut outs of the armor onto the suit without ripping the suit i was thinking about putting strips of it in side the suit to rivet it down than elastic suspenders across my chest to support it and same for the wrists a circle braclet on the the inside to river the forearm guards down

yay or nay??

i saw another dude on thwe league of heroes have a print made for his suit he was doing it looks AWESOME but his was going for over 300 and i could never justify that. but his did not have the gold on it. how much did you pay???

i have haha i bought craft foam im going to cut it and glue it into the shape and where it as an under shirt so the the tight spandex will strecth over it and show the impression and im thinking maybe even sewing along the creases to add more definition
and i was going to just wrap the armor and belt in the gold fabric i bought and for the crest on the back im going to cut that out of foam and wrap it in gold as well.

but that ill button down on the corners so i can get to my zipper that i moved to the back

body suit is just about done i need to make some gloves and get the turtle neck
and get that craft foam on there snug

i also posted in the junkyard for the helmet just in case i cant make it myself
