Not your average ESB lightsaber-Clapperboard saber showoff

Hey guys,

I thought I'd post a couple pics of my new Empire Strikes back lightsaber. It is modeled after the one that showed up on the Clapperboard special with David Prowes, and from the limited references that we have, I think I got pretty close.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out this thread

Let me know what you think about this weird *******.:lol

Thanks

Dan

Nice saber :D just 1 Q?

Did you have to moddify the graflex top shell to get it to fit, i just tried my kobold and the lilttle fat pin at the top is really tight into the graflex bayonet connector :confused :confused

Nice one!

I made my own right after the thread popped up where it was discussed.
It´s sitting in my shelf since then, ugly and cool at the same time :)

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "bayonet connector", but no I did not modify my graflex headshell, beyond putting a little bit of double sided tape on the Kobold head to give it an even and tight fit in the graflex headshell, and putting a little bit of tacky glue under the tear drop piece, so that it didn't swivel around when I swung around the saber making wooshing noises.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

The pin you´re talking about has to be removed before attaching the kobold to your graflex upper shell. It´s too thick to fit in the L-slot.

It´s cool to see some love for the fugly sabers, maybe it´s time to post my interpretation of the barbican now!? :cool

Yes! Do show. More fuglies please:)

Hey Dan, hope you don´t mind!?...we share the same passion for these ugly buggers :lol

Not totally accurate and still missing the box-detail but it´s already got the look´n´feel ;)

The Luke ANH stunt saber with spinning blade is still a WIP as well as the strange Vader saber with the ribbed midband...more to come.

I think this saber looks cool, i like the odd things and different props too. What happened to the interest list for these a while back? I think a run of these would be great :love

I think it fell off the board...not enough interest?
Too bad, I´d really like to build an ACCURATE representation of this saber in the future :unsure

I swear, between this saber, the Barbican and the Holiday special saber, they really could make some ugly props. That said, they look great (for what they're replicating :lol)

Markus, I think your barbican saber looks great so far.

I'd like to do an accurate barbican in the future too.

My biggest problem so far in working up 3d models is dealing with image distortion. I've built a couple of models and I end up with one matching one pic and another model matching the other pic. We need better pictures and a more in depth design thread.

Dan, if you know what camera/lens and focal length the picture was taken with you can use a program like PTLens to remove the lens distortion. It pretty much means you need to be the one to have taken the picture and have embedded metadata, but most every digital camera writes that info to the picture. I used this to fix my photos of the Devastatr that Stonky is using to build a 3D model of.

In Windows you can right-click on the file and view it's properties. If the metadata is there you should see info about the picture. Some people will strip this out when posting to the web though, so there's no guarantee that it'll be there.
