not really a prop, but a lot of sculpting...

:eek

why oh why dont some of you talented mofo's work for these companys?

why cant we get better sculpts from the start?

im not saying i could do what you did, but there are others like you with that talent to capture a likeness on a small scale, so why cant we have figures that have masters that are this good?

why?

anyway, stunning.

i would love to have a fig/statue with that accurate of a face sculpt. very impressive.... :thumbsup :thumbsup

Great job enhancing the likeness and realism of both head sculpts. Anakin's re-worked eyebrows make a huge difference, as does the fine texturing of Obi Wan's skin. :thumbsup

Both are amazing, but as has been said several times, the Anakin resculpt is truly stunning. Never having seen it before, and looking at just the head from the SS sculpt, I honestly can't say that I would have immediately recognized it as Anakin without the rest of the statue as a point of reference.

Your sculpt looks JUST LIKE Hayden. Picked it out in a nanosecond.

Phenomenal work. :)

blah blah blah you darn perfectionist. :p

My friend as always your work is wonderful now you have to go out and buy the 1/7 scale Luke as a Stormtrooper and redo that cause well I need one ha.

all the best

-Rich

lol, shush Rich..... :lol (but thanks. (and no I wont buy that Luke...... you have to buy it and send it to me :p )

wow, fellas...... I was maybe expecting a couple of comments, but not this. Thanks.. to all of you (to be honest I wasn't even sure if I should post it here... being a prop forum and all that, thanks for not telling me to take a hike lol)

You all gave me a great big smile as I read through this thread with my morning coffee this morning, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside, lol.. thanks :$

I refuse to put these on evilBay... because I hate recasters, and I would see that as bordering on it (somebody elses original sculpt... even if it was altered over weeks by me... is still someone elses sculpt)

however.... for collectors of Sideshow figures who are on the couple of forums I go to, i HAVE been making a list of people who want one/some for their own figures to upgrade them. I see it as a variation on me being sent a whole figure to do a custom repaint/resculpt on it... this is just easier than resculpting it every time :)

if anyone wants to be on the list, then just gimme a shout. I dont have enough heads ready to go to warrant putting a post in the junkyard I don't think, I sent out the first 6 heads yesterday, but I now have to get on with other (already paid for) customs for people, and I'll turn out a cast or two here and there inbetween these jobs, and work my way down the list.

If anyone wants details just pm or email me or something, and once again.. sincerely.... thanks for all the wonderful comments B)

WoW. your sculpts make me wanna go buy those figures-send them to you for fixing and then display them. Awesome job, they look alot better now.

Your re-sculpts and paint MAKE those figures. That's some of the best paint work I've seen. The way you've used different colors for the hair and how you've done the eyes really bring them to life.

Excellent work..

the Anakin head is outstanding, creepy even.

i got the WOW factor when i saw the difference.

you are very talented

Excellent. Especially Anakin, 100% better than the official version that are often a pale comparison time and time again :thumbsup :thumbsup .

obi's beard and hair look fantastic.

the flesh tones are quite an amazing improvement.

where is the tutorial? :D

i'd love to hear about your tools of the trade.

They're both great, but *****....that Anakin. It looks so perfect and lifelike that it truly does look like a disembodied head sitting on that shelf. A little weird, but again...DAMN.

It amazes me that these companies making these higher-end collectibles can't get this right and settle into the "good enough" mentality, and talented "fans" are able to blow their work so far out of the water that the "fan-made" product looks like what you would expect out of a high-end repro, and the "high-end" repro looks like what you would exepct out of an amature fan-builder.

Well Done.

Great turn-out all around. You're painting skills is especially amazing.
:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

ok shush you lot, I'm blushing now, lol :$

seriously though, a big, BIG, BIG thank you to everyone. I might just have to post here again when I do something new.... if it's allowed. or even something old... like my Sideshow Aragorn :p

Awesome work :thumbsup :D

As other have said the Anakin is simply amazing - totally captured his face. The Obi is not quite up to that standard - but I think that is largely due to the original sideshow sculpt not being all that great to start with.

oh man... NICE.... More pics or Aragorn, please... did you just mod his existing head?. nice nice nice...

thanks,
-r.

Thanks fellas.

Mikey I'd actually put the Obi-Wan looking less that the Anakin down to the fact that my paintjob isn't as good. I really rushed the Obi-Wan job toget it finished, as I had (still do) other things I needed to start, and I just wanted it up on my shelf and finished.

I may still alter/retouch things on it down the line, but for now it's good enough (and when it's up on the shelf under the lights it looks JUST like Ewan.... it's when i analyze it close up it looks less like him. Although still better than how it looked when I started, lol)

rhboyd, I'll stick a few pics of Aragorn up when I get a bit of time. I didnt sculpt anything on it, just cut the hair off, repainted the head and put it back in with a bit of tweaking to get a more animated hair pose.

Also the clothes were weathered (using paint, sandpaper, screwdrivers, craft knives, dremel heads, stitching, and a bit of fabric recolouring)

I'll do some before and after shots for you soon. Not sure whether to do another thread or keep them in this thread to keep the forum less cluttered. Probably here. :)
