NIKE, you can go to hell. I'm making my own NIKE MAG's *NEW LED's* 12-21 pg.21

Re: NIKE, you can go to hell. I'm making my own NIKE MAG's *EL SOLES* 11-16 Pg. 1

No worries, I understand. I'm sure you'll post if it turns out good.

So did you just get an el sheet that is long enough, and simply cut it into 2 semi circles? Does there need to be a tiny join between the 2 to keep it as one piece, or are they cut out of one sheet with a wire running between the 2? I haven't used them before so can't visualise how they look/work.

I bought a 8.5 x 11" EL sheet and you can cut EL sheet into any shape you want.

For the soles, I cut a sheet that is the length of the rubber part. You can see my template and the EL sheet. The reason it looks like 2 seperate smi-circles is because behind the rubber sole, there is residual grey sole that I left so it would block the EL light.

Looks good, Brad!

So once the last is done, what material did you use to create the foam shoe then Brad?

My mags are nearly the same like brads. I just don't use a form i do have a blueprint of the shoe, cut them out of foam too and sew them together. Next step is glueing the laces on the foam and cover the whole shoe with fabric. Sew it together in the heel, on the laces part, on the sole area and just one seam on the shoe, like on the original one. It sounds quite easy but believe me it is not.

Cool, good to see how people are tackling it. I was going to get a professional last made out of wood, I would imagine you will get a smoother finish than simply heating up the foam then forming visually?

Also, will the foam be good for occasional wearing of the shoes, as long as it is covered in fabric and waterproofed on the outside with a clear coat spray? Will it bond easily to the sole, and if so, what glue are you guys using to get a completely solid stick that won't come loose? I would assume you are using proper shoe glue?

So Brad, will these be wearable as well? Sure, no hiking on long mountain trails, but say to an indoor theme party?

I won't know until I actually glues the upper to the sole but if I had to guess I would say no.

I plan on using either Shoe Goo or Gorilla Glue.

Everyone who is following this thread just dropped their heads in disappointment :cry:lol

Ok, got my MarkPoons at last. I have to say, the only thing bad is the strap, I ACTUALLY had to get the vacumm out to clear up the house after they flaked everywhere. Making a man do vacuuming....bad news! :lol

Anyway, I think I have found a fabric close to what you have Brad so I'm gonna give it a shot. I now commend what you guys are doing even more now as it looks like it's gonna be a bugger to do! Instead of making a last and using craft foam etc. i'm simply going to recover the existing lycra and put some elastic underneath so that the shoe will still be 100% wearable. I think the shape is pretty damn good in real life so I'm going to stick with it.

I'm then going to replace the leather strap and I plan on attaching some press studs into the leather strap and the lip of the shoe just under the triangular cutout. This will allow me to click then strap in place where it should be and not sit in the gap below. I will be gluing the rear white section that holds the leather strap down with shoe glue. Once this is done, I plan on tackling the rear heel cup with a local foam specialist with a better LED cutout.

I have just ordered some turquoise and blue El sheets along with a tiny 9v inverter and some 2 way splitters.

Also, something that you will like Brad. I have a local rubber specialist (plenty here in Yorkshire!) that thinks he can replicate the transparent rubber we require with an inverted pyramid/waffle type press at 3mm so that I can cut the yellow section out and replace with clear. If successful, I'd be happy to get you some shipped over.

....Once all this is done, I'm probably just gonna go ahead and buy some genuine Mags anyway and wear these day to day.

Great post Luke. I can't wait to see your progress. Please start up a new thread when you do so we can keep things straight and I totally look forward to seeing your MAGs come to life.

I would LOVE to see some clear soles. Thank you!

I can't help feel responsible for the anguish you are about to undertake with your shoes :lol

YESSSSS!!!! They're coming.... any day now..... [rubs fingers together]

Since there's no English on that site at all, I can't tell, but I wonder if they sell all those in any size. Not that I'd buy those, but am just curious. Like Brad, I'm holding out for accurate knock-offs.

Thanks Brad, only just had time to reply to this. I'm currently on a huge migration project with some Servers so been very busy.

I will definately create a new thread for you, hopefully within the next week. Should be exciting news!

Not a problem about the soles. A shoe maker with 25 years experience THINKS that he may be able to find out what the original silver material is as he has contacts in China and across the world, fingers crossed. He also said that his mate who does rubber moulds might be able to do this, again, fingers crossed, I don't want to get too much excitement going here :lol

I'm sure it will be cool to have a pair that I can wear out and not worry about been mugged :rolleyes
