Hey guys,
I almost finish my V2 mod and I wanted to thank all of those who raised the bar and always be there to help noobs like me in this thread (airair, jedifyfe, cavx, taff83 etc...)
I thought I couldn't make it but now I can touch my dream of owning a pair of mags, thank to all of you!

Thank you. I think the other guys have done far more for the general community so far as documenting mods goes, especially @Jedyfyfe. My mods seem to be a bit specialized, especially since going into making my own rubber parts.

I started repainting the sole and heel cup for a grey light look and real turquoise Mag letters. The result is pretty cool.

Yes changing the colour of the midsole makes such a difference to the look of the shoe. What paint did you use?

I was so excited when I painted mine and then so bummed when the paint cracked and flaked off my pair so I have since mixed light grey rubber and applied that. The rubber has bonded and made a flexible shell. It won't crack or peel, but the mod is not for the faint hearted.

Anyone who's done the steam toe-mod. Before the mod the toe-box is relatively hard. The steam and heat softens it for reformation.

After it cools, does the toe-box go back to the original hardness or do the alterations cause it to soften up to some degree?

A question for people who have much more knowledge about electronic and LEDs than I do, but is there any reason why the green LEDs tend to dim first? I got them all from the same place and they are all using the same resistor. My guess is that they are a higher voltage than the yellow or red (However my knowledge on this is very basic)

In a way its kinda cool, as the green go first, then the yellow and the red last......almost like a battery meter :D

EDIT: Just looked on the Bright Components Ebay page where I bought them and it says the voltage of the greens is 3.2v, compared to 2v for the Yellow/Red.

My HC mags are different. The blue sole lights dim, and then they go out simultaneously with all the LED lights. However, there is a single burnt out yellow (it's getting exchanged) on the one I saw go out. So that may somehow affect how the shoe runs dry.

I used Angelus white and turquoise paint and followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZxkCac3e9k&feature=youtu.be
This paint is very nice and not peeling so far. I'll put a mat finish after the turquoise splashes are done.

Ok let us know how it all goes.

Right now, my shoes are setting up with a 2nd layer of grey rubber. This time I am not only thickening the layer, I am filling in the gaps between my clear soles and the mid sole.

My current set of clears were not perfectly formed on the tops of the wings, so I ground off the top rather then throw that pair out. As a result, I had a small gap which you might be able to see in my picture I posted back when I first showed my GITD soles. It was not bad, just looks much better now The rubber self levels and goes smooth even if I poke at it as goes into gel state, so I will have to add the texture when I apply the splatter which will also be tinted rubber and will take time. You can build this up, just it takes time.

I'm stating at my shoes and I really like what I've done with them so far considering what they are and how cheap they were I've already done the steam toe slim but I really think maybe I should do te cut and glue..I'm just really thinking hard on it is the only risk messing up the glueing process? I have really steay hands and I'm a painter so I'm pretty patient I painted my soles without masking my shoes if that gives you any inside on how careful
i am should I cut slim toe my shoes or leave them and be happy with it??

glasses, i've repaired a few of my shoes where the sole or midsole has come away, you just have to hold it in place while it dries for a tight fit. A combination of shoe glue and some small amounts of superglue can help with that, as can rubber bands to hold it in place. the tip to avoid glue squidging out the side when you press it to fit, is to use less than you think you need. Put the glue in, fairly far down, then press the two surfaces together. then pull them apart again and see how close to the outer joint it has moved. Less is better than too much. Anyway, if the glue is not enough and it does come away again, you can always try again with a little more glue, but it will be better than the glue staining the cloth surface. I've been able to avoid a lot of problems repairing runners with a water based product called 'liquid nails' - if that's available in san deigo. Selleys shoe glue is stronger, but it's not water clean up. And also, your mods (including the painting) make the HC's look much better. I wasn't taken with them when I saw all the images cos I've already got a few V1's and V2's. Pity my feet are a bit big to fit into my MP's - he was the first to make MAG replicas.

I suppose you've all seen the Air Max 90's BTTF colours? I ordered some from a seller on AliExpress. They just arrived.
They look very similar to RD Air Max 90s, a good replica, as the following photos show. When night finally comes to Melbourne, I'll get to find out how well they glow. :)

Ok so I finished one shoe and it feels amazing! Having the sock type toe box is like perfect I'm so happy with it I wear nike roshes and like I've said before the movie shoe has the same sock toe look and I'm wearing both shoes now one sock toe and one steam toe and I don't know how I though steam toe was any good! They look cartoony and huge way too puffy. I feel like I can actually wear these shoes out with the sick movie type toe box now they don't look so cool for off foot photos now but on foo they look great I'll post some pictures once I'm done with the second shoe just want to say thanks to Jedifyfe for his tutorials and also airair I think who was the one who first removed the toebox or the movie look first

Ahh they look really good, tempted by a pair of these myself. Love air max 90s and the fact they are in BTTF colours is a nice addition :)

PM me if you want the seller details, as now it's a known seller who is legit (for a replica supplier, anyway) as I don't think I'm supposed to post any links to sales here. I've read 'no ebay posts' a few times so staying on the safe side.
Yeh I've got a collection of 90's myself among other things lol :D

The ebay prohibition, to my understanding, is to prevent people from driving auctions and artificially raising the bid price. I'm pretty sure you can post a link to a retail store, I've done it myself when citing a place selling a Star-Lord vest and that turned out ok. But if you want to stick to PM, I'd sure like to know...beats going through listings one by one.

I've been looking at a few of the "wholesale" sites myself. Trying to find some acceptable Doc Vandals and Marty Bruins. I even toyed with the idea of getting some V1's as rainy-day mags. Lots of rainy-days in the Pacific NW.

Can you pm the link to the air max 90's? Ive been looking for a pair to mod like these

.modding has become a addiction and from what I can gather I wont be getting a pair of black mags anytime soon (out of stock) so the 90's will do for now

It's pretty late here 3:30 lol but here's a phone pic I'll be taking proper photos tomorrow

Great job, they are looking million times better than how they come.
I did it on quite a few pairs, you can easily stretch the 2 grey layers of fabric and you get a perfect flat sock toe.

I know some might not prefer it, as you lose the fixed shape if you leave that piece in between the layers, but I kind of prefer it as it is more or less exactly like the movie shoe.

Way cooler than the standard toe. Good job!

I'm inspired to do this mod. Problem is, I won't be able to resist building up the rubber toe first.

very nice Glasses. Maybe I really should break out the knife and my girlfriend's hairdryer to soften the glue, and do this myself to one of mine. I really need to put a tongue topper on them first though.
