Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

If they are rechargeable with their own charge port, they should, but nothing is guaranteed. What is the big deal with "safety" with these anyway? It is not like they will lay a mushroom cloud if they pop, or blow your foot off or something like that. At best, you might get a tiny puff of smoke. The only issue I really see if they get wet they could short and that will most likely mean a replacement of the battery.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I have given up with Zener diodes for charger port, no problems here but it's upto you and I know folk will say how unsafe this is Ect but tbh my shoes charge fine and I have had no problems, most plug chargers actually have a Zener diode in them so bare that in mind.

I'm not promoting not using a Zener diode I'm just saying I don't use them anymore.

Oh while I'm posting thought I'd mention I should have a update tomorrow for the 3v setup, will post if its worth it and I have progress finally!

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

for the 3v led setup

can you also wire them in series?

if so, what resistors are required?

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

No resistors have to be in parallel for 3v.

In series you will have 4 leds trying to share 3.7v = 0.9volts ish which wont light them up bright (if at all).

They have to be in parallel and about 10-20 ohm depending on how much current you want to stick through them. If max current (20ma) then 10 ohm. But if you want to save power use higher value resistors to increase battery life (sometimes you can get away with no resistors using 3.7v)

Edit

made some mistakes on calculation. corrected now

thanks
yeah so now since ill be doing 3v setup

i should do the leds in parallel, and use a resistor for each row, the ones you sent me i think should be ok.

wheres that screenshot/diagram someone posted up before?
thanks

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

another question

which is the correct battery type to get?

Lithium ION like a digicam/phone battery

or

Lithium Polymer?

ive seen both types. are both of these ok to use? the lithium polymer ones are the ones with most already have presoldered wires attached, and most of these types aren't encased in any plastic.

so im looking at various digicam/lithium ion and polymer batteries which are less than 5.5cm x 3.5cm.

that is the dimension of the v2 rectangular hole as it comes without any further cutting away.

the height of the hole is about 1.5cm.

So basically, need to fit the inverter and the battery in that space.

As i don't have the tools to cut into the sole and don't want to weaken it any further, im goiing to try find the best and slimmest battery with a reasonable mah output.

If i can find a battery which already has the connector wires already presoldered or connected that would be even better.

I'm still a bit queasy on using a lithium battery under the foot!
don't know why, but it scares me for some reason!

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

It would power it, well it should do, but A 1000mah battery can supply 1amp continuous for an hour.

So you draw one amp for an hour= dead, 500ma would be 2 hours and so on.

I can't tell you what the maximum current draw of a full circuit with 12 LEDs would be but a quick calculation would be 12 LEDs at 10ma = 120ma, plus around 140ma for n inverter to run a smallish piece for el so double that. Plus aff 50ma for some circuit leakage/other useage and your looking at 450-500ma for a full 3v circuit.

You would last around 2hours maybe less, but you could drop the ma of the LEDs to 5 IF it doesn't effect their brightness (that depends on the type and quality of the LEDs used). Could probably drop that to just under 400ma.

That's maximum current draw. You could probably use 1 inverter to light both the Nike logo and the sole el. The downside to that is you would have a rather long wire run and the capacitance of those extra wires COULD effect the inverter (as an inverter is designed to run a panel for xxx by xxx size and an EL panel is basically a capacitor so increasing capacitance by adding wire could effect the colour and brightness. Thats COULD.

It's all trial and error really, well its not but what I'm saying is you can't just go "yeah this will be fine", you have to experiment a bit.

thanks yeah, im looking at various different batteries and going to try test which ones can last long and which ones are ok for non rechargeable options.

so a 3v setup with the 3v inverter and 12 leds and 2 EL cutouts for strap/soles, will be roughly using up to 500ma?

so when looking at a batteries info like below
http://www.sony.net/Products/MicroBattery/cr/pdf/cr2477.pdf

for example, that is a 1000mah coin battery which has a standard discharge current of 0.4a, so 400ma. this battery would light up for 2 hours or so?

Or is there something else to consider when looking at various battery types?

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Karin said my shoes were handled roughly in the mail by the new shipping guy they hired. Then said they spoke to him and solved the problem. No more shipping problem, yeahhhhh right. Claims the shoes were hand inspected before shipping. I told Karin there is no way the shoes would be that messed up from being handled wrong during shipping.

I've thrown freight off loading trucks across rooms. 95% of the stuff NEVER saw damage. And out of the 5% that did....it wasn't too noticeable. So I don't believe that crap. My shoe box looks fine. No way the shoes were damaged like that. Offered me a discount on another pair of shoes.

I'm like what the heck. 5% off a another pair of crap shoes will do me no good. Bait n switch tactic if you ask me.
Honestly man, its not even worth trying to talk to them about quality. Unless you personally talk to a small supplier yourself, the big websites will not refund you or give a crap because they have enough traffic & plenty of buyers. They know you can't do anything because shipping them back is impossible. This is why I use this small supplier called Jason (I have him on skype too) who I've known for months and he even takes pictures of the shoes if requested. A user on this forum already asked me for his info before. If anyone wants to buy MAGs I highly recommend him, I speak to him often and his english is fluid.

Karin is a small seller so there might be more luck.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Karin is a small seller so there might be more luck.
If Karin is from one of those aliexpres type listing sites then they can be just as bad as the sites. Chinese sellers unfortunately put us at a disadvantage, if you're ordering outside of mainland china when it comes to customer service/quality its picking at straws. I know a lot of peeps here aren't familiar with that because replicas/shoes aren't their thing (save for everyone buying mags) but I've only ever talked to two small suppliers who although didn't like it- would take photographs. Finding these sellers that actually will take photos are rare and their prices are about average(I think Jason sells mags at 200 USD {and 170USD at one time}). Certain suppliers can draw you in with their lower than average pricing but I think its not worth it.

There are also the big sites that aren't returning rpf users their money. Probably just one dime a dozen of a network of sites that one guy owns, those people you talk to in their live chats are employees who don't know squat, usually referring to their employer as "manager". They don't take photos either even if you beg. The cash is usually stuck in limbo then and they'll force you to buy something you don't want or just keep your money until you do so. Its pretty vicious.

Probably because they are in the business to make money, not friends.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I'm not gonna lie. I'm scared to rip my shoes apart. Ugh. I don't know if I can work on them or not. I'm stuck in a mindset thats like "What if I get them apart, can't fix them and give up. Then I'm out of a set of shoes I could've worn."

Waaahhhh. Maybe I'll have a "F It" day and just go at it.

:sleep some users got too optimistic with the pre-orders and they got screwed over like that though, it was add another hundred dollars to get your shoes or argue with a person that is in a position that has no obligation to return your money or give you anything at all once its been sent through WU.

I was totally in the same boat chief, but i guarantee when you look at them you will start thinking aw that will be easy to change or I could have a go at doing that...I'm totally new at modding and have started the strap first with the logo and el and will go from there. I swear the rpf is like a drug that i'm totaly addicted to! Good luck!

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

hi
can anyone tell me which 3v inverter do i need to get?

i tried looking for 3v coin cell inverters, nobody has them

the only ones ive seen are

3v - 2 x aaa battery el inverter

and

3v - 2 x aa battery el inverter

which one is best one to get?
im going to throw away the plastic outer shells anyway, so i just need the best one to get.

thanks

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Much too big to fit anywhere. I'd suggest one like this. It takes 2 hearing aid batteries. I've got 2 here if anybody wants em btw. Pm for details.

hi

which 3v inverter are you using in your 3.7v wiring setup?

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

got all the leds working and el panel off a 3v system now (all leds are the same brightness) only problem is i need to find a inverter without the flash function, does anyone know if there is a 3v inverter out there that doesn't flash and just does "on/off"?

So close now to having this perfect for us all just i don't want to turn to switch on and the lights flash then we have to press it again to turn the lights on.. if that makes sense :confused

As soon as this is perfect i will post all the pieces you need and photos of the whole setup so you can all replicate it.

tomorrow i will find out how many hours we get from a 2000mah digi cam battery for this setup and i will post my results.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Just finished my second shoe. As of right now I have both shoes on a 9v set up on one switch with charging pin in the back of each shoe. Next I will try to figure out how to use one charger to charge both shoes. Here was my wiring before finalizing it. Both the 9v and the inverter fit in the factory heel spot no problem. The trick with all the wires is to put them in places that they won't be bothered. After putting another insole in, you don't even notice anything under your feet.

i dont know, when i put in a 9v battery, it sticks out by at least 1.5mm or something.

how are you squeezing it in?

its why ive now decided to go for a 3v inverter.

that one here seems the best option i think for 3 volt inverters.
http://www.coolight.com/product-p/cl-iptc-3v-3-7ft.htm

i think you said live near that place? if so, you might be able to do a few a favour on here! that postage on that website is a bit pricey, i dont know why they are charging so much for small items.

Guys, with the greatest of respect to your builds and battery dilemmas, schmucks like me who can't/won't do the mods themselves, I think, are fascinated by photos and updates. Is it possible for us to see your entire shoes (not just the batteries) so we can see how they look??
