Nike Mag V2 Mod Discussion (Page 58 Shopping List)

The mags do have an unorthodox shape you have to remember and my template should make things look infinitely superior to what is currently out there. Sometimes you have to show people the right way of doing things, so hopefully my template should make things a lot better.

There may not be a v3 from China, but if im happy with the samples I get, there will more than likely be a "mister fusion" shoe on the market next year! It may resemble an Air Mag, but that's not for me to judge! It will simply be a shoe suitable for costumes and wearing.

Looking forward to getting a few "Mr Fusions" if they can be made :D

There's a better chance we will see something from Nike themselves next year than seeing a V3 from China.

I should have added: "And I'm not holding my breath for any more MAGs from Nike." Because that's what I meant. While I'd love to see another official release, I don't trust that company at all not to screw us.

These are the rough scratch made uppers (with shoddy stitching) that can hopefully be replicated on a more professional level.
Keep in mind, I've increased the height of the grey sole toebox by a few mm to get the correct slope on this pair virtually identical to the movie/2011 shoe. Even without correcting the grey sole toe area, the new uppers still look a millions times better than any previous version or knockoff.

The uppers now completely remove any trace of the Mark Poon style uppers of the V2 knockoff.

Bravo! I really hope the factory can reproduce these. I do have a question though. Is this grey material just for the mock up? Because it looks a little too dark. It kind of reminds me of cloneprops prototype.

Good work airair. Can we see your upper from other angles like the rear please?

I've been looking at the older V1s and think their sole profile is closer to the real shoe than the V2 once you build the toe, pad out the hollow outer side. I don't think it is that hard to mod them now that I have the masters for the clears done.

If these are professionally produced, the only modding that would need to be done would be to add Cavx's clear soles and install electronics. It would almost be at the point to having the real things would only be for the novelty of having them actually made by Nike.

Apart from my clear sole, there is still some work needed to be done on the mid-soles and heel cup.

These are not really an important as the upper being correct, but they are annoying me now.

If the Chinese can make these uppers to look the same, even on a V2 sole, we will be closer than we've ever been.

Oh yeah I forgot about the midsole repainting. The heel cups, ankle buckles and the midsoles are inaccurate, but you can't do much about those. Except for cloneprops' buckles.

I am talking about making a new master, molding and casting that. When looking at a pair of V1 soles that I have on hand, once you grind down the heel, parts of the side profile are closer to the RD than the V2. There is some build up work needed to allow my clear soles to fit as well building up the toe, but over all it would produce a good result. The V2 Heel Cup looks OK. Given I would have to re-texture both parts to match, I would be able to increase the wings and add larger letters to the back.

These parts get molded in silicone (probably about 5KG per sole/heel cup) and then cast in tinted rubber with a shore of about 20~25.

I am currently re-doing my molds for my clear soles and will be also making a smaller set for US8. I am looking at ways to mod, mold and cast the ankle buckle so it can hold a 9V battery and just for giggles, will make embedded strap logos. I am about to test some tint and a new glow in the dark compound.

Here's a pic of my upper template with the other parts drawn on (this template is based on the 2011, ive made the 2011 version and 1989 version templates)

That looks good. I imported the official MAG patterns into Sketch-Up, drew up and printed out a full size set of patterns, but only ever made a mini MAG from paper. I still want a leather pair of these.

Start holding your breath....;)

Big breath taken :)

Thanks cav, the way i made the pattern's toe box is that i added a few mm's extra, this fits a size 10.5 Air Force 1 knockoff sole and has enough extra space to go on larger sizes. That way it can fit from 11-12 and just fold it in/down for smaller sizes while all sizes would be the stay same height. Thats the theory/idea anyway, havent torn down any other shoes to try it out yet.

There is two trains of thought on sizes -
1. that the shoes just get longer/wider but maintain the same height or
2. that the shoes do change height as well as length.

When I lined up the US8, US9.5 and US13 V2 MAGs, there was quite a bit of difference between the US8 and US13, almost an inch.

Hi guys,
This my first try to mod my mags by myself, I'm not very handy but I will do my best and this is a big challenge for me.
I don't want to screw this up.
Anyway, I've started to remove the old electronics, everything ok but there is just this last wire stuck in the shoe.
I don't know if it's stiched or glued but impossible to remove it, I'm affraid to torn something inside...

This is the switch/usb carger wire.
Anybody has the same issue?
I can't wait to keep working on them.
Thanks!

Vormz, if the last bit of wire doesn't come out when you pull on it, leave it there. I found the wires in my left shoe were glued in to the Heel Cup which actually started to tear as I removed it. Lucky that rubber glues back together really easily. I just cut the wires off. The right shoe did not seem to have half the glue as the left.

what material is the shoe made out of
I just used some cuffing fabric I had lying around. I ran out of grey fabric.

It's not really a big deal buying from factories in china. I've bought containers lots of times before, my family buys regularly from china (non shoe related).

You just need some balls and courage and the cash and it's done.

Just cut off with scissors. That cable is glued very tightly behind the heel and some of the fabric.
