Hi everyone,

After too many years wishing for a Stormtrooper Helmet, I decided to buy one from a UK guy who casts his own. WWW.Resintrooperhelmets.weebly.com

over the last couple of days I have been removing eyes, teeth, adding ear pieces and screws, rebuilding a low spot over the left eye.

any advice or tips are very welcome. This is my first attempt at this kinda thing.

Hi, what advice do you need :)
the helmet looks like it is coming along fine. I won't comment on the actual helmet sculpt but more so finishing. You just have to prep the surface as best as you can, time spent here will pay off at the end, painting is actually the quicker bit. Fill any imperfections and sand back with progressively finer wet and dry. I can't tell too much from the images but be careful not to go overboard filling and sanding so you lose the style and traits that are the stormtrooper look.
a good wash, check and recheck is then needed. Prime and spray allowing to build up even coverage. If you are adding mic tip with screws, drill holes before priming,
anything else mate, looking good.

Thnx TK7713Gra30. To be honest this gonna be more of a showpiece than used for trooping. My only slight concern is the distance between ear and upper vent for when I install the brow but I can work around that. There was a dint over the eye which has now been filled but I am just cleaning it up. I haven't really had to do anything else other than tidy it up a bit for painting. The primer is being sanded between coats
do I need to wet and dry the top coat aswell before polishing?
mic tips will be glued into position then it's just a case of dirtying it up sandtrooper style.

i would like to troop but would be buying from RS Propmasters

I can't really see what you mean by ear and uppervent, can you post a side view. I have built about 15 lids but all except one were abs. I have built a fiberglass and done some vaders. For the paint, prime and wet and dry. Check and if need prime again, you can go over with a very fine wet and dry but don't go through the primer. Add the gloss white in 2-3 layers with gaps of half hour or so. Let dry for about a week. Cut back with more very fine wet and dry, you should see it go back Matt and smooth, you are looking to remove back so there is no orange peel effect of gloss and Matt, it should all be Matt. Apply another couple of coats of white as before, let dry and do the same. This is building up very smooth layers of paint. Finally you can t cut or rubbing compound lightly and you should buff to a great shine. I never laquer and let the polish of the paint do itself. It also looks more like the abs helmets. Then just paint the markings and detail etc, hope that helps. I am awaiting a CFO full armour delivery :)

Of course you can do the hdpe helmet with chips etc and more like the originals in set. I have done 3 or 4 of those. That process is different so let me know if you want that route, it is certainly quicker :)
