nice touch with the lights. Very Avenger-esque :)

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 12.18.12 - New Lights!!)

Epic build. I can't believe I stumbled upon this. I'm nearly finished my MK VI foam build for the Sevens. Hopefully I'll see you there! I was hoping to be the only one..but ahh well. I must admit, your's is amazing! I'm just finishing paint and electronics on mine. One question, do you have anything holding the thighs up, such as velcro to the cod?

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 12.18.12 - New Lights!!)

Haha the one thing ive learned about the sevens is that no matter how out there, creative or unusual your costume is, youre bound to run into a group of people dressed the same lol. The fun thing will be that we'll probably be in totally different places most of the time, but to most people the suits will look the same, so theyll think we've flown :D

My thighs are buckled to the cod underneath the hip pods, and the cod is held up as its attached to a pair of trouser braces :D

Here's hoping for a not very hot day for the both of us! We should definately try and meet up at some point!

Nice find :) We sure did and had a great yarn. Always nice to meet such talented folk. Both myself and stark naked entered into the costume contest, and both made it into the finals and paraded on the pitch infront of 30,000 people. What an experience! Myself and Loki that you see here entered in the 'pairs' category, and won!

Heres some of my favourite pictures from the competition. The view of the stadium you can see a group of people on the right side of the field, thats us!

Congrats on the win mate, suit turned out fantastic!

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 2.2.13 - Partied hard, won $1000!!)

Thanks mate, I was very lucky to have located such a high quality Loki. If you look at the pictures on the previous page, you can see his eyes actually glow blue. I wont reveal how its done as ive never seen anything like it and is not my idea to reveal, but suffice to say it freaked out everyone that saw it!

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 2.2.13 - Partied hard, won $1000!!)

I just thought I would share some experiences with my costume which I hope will help others indending to wear their suits quite extensively.

Having an openable faceplate is almost a must if you have lit eyes, and are moving around anywhere dimly lit with stairs or obstacles. Otherwise you just dont have enough vision. You can compromise on the brightness and size of the eye lights to find the right balance, but a simple hinge and magnet arrangment is probably not hard to do on a foam lid.

Fans are a nice idea, but I found that they were next to useless as they simply didnt shift enough air. I got far more benefit from having small vent holes/mesh, and the breeze that was around on the day. The fans also drained the 3 AAA batteries in less than a couple of hours, and made the lights that were also connected to them very dim. On the day I just disconnected the fans. For fans to be any use, you need much more powerful ones than the 3" 5v case fans I had, and much larger capacity batteries.

This thread is inspirational. I'll be doing my 2nd suit the same way and glad I can keep referring to this thread.

Again great work mate, keep the pics flowing

Thanks Davey, quite an accolade!

Heres a couple of pictures from the first day of the two day event on Wellington waterfront. I love these pictures as they really show the details on the suit and the deliberate damage. The colours also look spot on here!

awesome work bro... im a kiwi who moved over to perth, was really thinking of coming home and rocking my iron man in welly for the 7's... great to see you did it justice.

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 2.2.13 - Partied hard, won $1000!!)

Thanks man, the suit in your Avatar looks amazing!!

Believe it or not there were actually quite a few Iron Man suits at the 7's.

There was mine (the only MkIV), two very well finished full foam MkVI's, a 'top half' only MkVI, a full foam MkVI finished in war machine colours with red eyes, and moko (Maori tattoo) designs on the faceplate and legs, then there were also quite a few low quality bought outfits. It was wishful thinking that no-one else was going to build a full suit, but at one point in the construction I did think I might be the only one daft enough to be doing it :D
