New Zealand Iron Man -(update 1.20.14)- display upgrade

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

As a fellow Wellingtonian, please don't let the sevens destroy this suit! haha

Such an amazing job mate! Love it.

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

Dyno that suit came out looking sick:cool, i also like the slim fit you achieved when making the armour.....those finishing touches you added sure make it stand out as a really cool piece of art.....well done mate:thumbsup

Thanks mark, hope that diagram worked out for you :)

That looks awesome. I like the battle scarring.

Thanks, im glad I did it. Even after a few trial fits the paint has already creased and cracked in a good few places. Thankfully with all the battle damage it just blends in no bother.

Nice! Good job mate :D

Cheers buddy!

GREAT WORK!!!
Diggin' the super hero battle damage look. Can you really trust a super hero in clean or pristine costume/armor? I say NO NOT REALLY!

Too true, gotta get your hands dirty from time to time!

Haha, itll take alot to totally destroy it. Worst that happens is that I need to rebuild and/or respray some parts. Say hi if you see me there!

Yeah thanks mate the diagram was spot on, the only problem i had was the switch i had didn't fit inside my helmet so i had to scrap the idea of lighting it up with that set up.
Instead i glued a metal plate to each side of the helmet(and the faceplate) then just soldered the wires to it so when it separates the lights turn off. This is the only configuration i could use because i was limited for space.

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

Ahh yeah, I thought your switch looked bulky. You can get smaller ones mind you, but if you found a solution that works, then awesome. I guess I might be worried that walking and moving around might dislodge the contacts of a metal plate from time to time. If you find it does, you could magnetise one of them :)

Yeah i did find now i've been taking the helmet on and off lots, sometimes when the faceplate is down the eyes don't come on.

I usually have to press down on it to make them light...which sort of defeats the object, i may as well have just put a switch instead.....hopefully i'll figure something out

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

Ive got some very small reed switches which are designed to be recessed into a door frame. They would definately fit in an Iron Man chin. The other half (without the wires) just contains a magnet that you could dig out and stick onto the face plate. The link below shows the kind I have. If you were in NZ you could have one for free! The switch turns on when the magnet is close to the flat round part of the switch.

Hey man, you suit is amazing! Congrats!! Allow me to give you one small critique. You made the same mistake I did. In the pep files, it has the bottom ab piece attached to the cod. This is wrong. It looks much better with those pieces on the abs. Observe:

After moving the pieces:

It's an easy fix. Good luck man! :)

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

Howdy another wellingtonian. Just wondering where you got your foam from and how many sheets you needed?

Cheers

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

Haha never mind I recognize that tape on it anywhere.

Off to the warehouse

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

Haha that's right mate. I got through 2 'double' sized rolls building the main parts, then bought a 3rd roll to finish off the additional covers etc.

Helagak - youre definately correct about that lower rib, but I am loathed to redo it. I'll do a Photoshop to see if it's worth it. I would have to repaint the parts that I cut which would be annoying lol

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

Unless you are in a huge time crunch, I would do it. Your suit is out of this world. That is just one small issue that stands out. :)

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

I did a photoshop, and the difference is pretty minimal. If I run out of things to do ill give it a nudge ;) While its probably better to do it the right way, I also think that I get a bit more movement out of the suit with it done the wrong way lol.

I also made a promise to myself once I finished the suit, that I wouldnt tinker with it, in any way that was going to make it more delicate or restrict movement further. This just about slots into the latter category, so I reckon itll probably stay how it is for the time being :)

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

Thanks Doc! Coming from someone buliding a suit of your quality that means a lot! :$

Re: New Zealand Iron Man -(update 3.10.12 - Suited up!!)

Did a little tinkering today. I added 'eyeliner' to the eyes (black frames), and reshaped the faceplate which was a little too concave/flat. I also added some more texturing and weathering to it. The difference is quite marked!

i take it something like this reed switch would work too? just attach lights to each side and add a magnet into the faceplate

Hi there, thanks very much. I used car spray paints from Supercheap Auto. I can get you the colour codes if it will help. Just let me know.

Thank you :)

That reed switch would work fine. Just splice it anywhere in the wiring for your eye lights.
