New RPF artwork thread

Re: I can't find the old "art" tread, so...

Sorry to ask but nobody said anything about my art, is it really that bad? :-( sorry if I sound childish. I spent alot of time on these and cant figure out why nobody said anything.

I don't want to speak for others, but it appears to me that the work that shines a little above the rest is getting the comments. That's not to say that your work isn't good, it's just on a different level than some of the others.

I would venture also that people can be a little aprehensive about giving criticism considering how infrequent it's well received.

Just my 2¢.

Re: I can't find the old "art" tread, so...

Thanks for your opinion. I guess that makes sence.
About the criticism, negative is my favorite because it tell me what I need to improve on.
I'm very open to advice and opinions especially since my art teacher who got me to that level and above was very critical and I still thank her very much for that.

They are OK but nothing special. All the paintings don't look finished and they are still a bit rough. The faces look off a bit. For example, the eyes on Jack Nicholas are not correct and his proportions are off. Your painting makes his face fatter and wider. The original has his face looking taller and squeezing into the door. The "evilness" is gone from your version.

The abstract painting has no dynamics. The ellipses on the wheels aren't correct and the overall painting has no depth. I know it's Abstract but the light source isn't correct either. If you want to go abstract, abstract it further and maybe deconstruct the pieces or distort them much farther. The entire painting looks like 4 quadrants. Break it up into 3rds or get more angles and perspective.

The Gong Show painting has a few things that bother me. The pattern on the floor isn't correctly in perspective and the drapes could use some more contrast to make the folds appear more realistic. Also, the circle on the logo is almost tangent to the top of the frame. I would avoid Tangents like this because it's an unnecessary tension point.

The shoulder on the German guy looks flat. You should add shadows to define it a bit more.

The tank is bad ass!!

Re: I can't find the old "art" tread, so...

Here is some of my artwork that I did for my book.

The drawing of Alexxa Hunter, her head is slightly exagerated to show a more compasionate emotion on her face, the hands are not drawn anotomically correct. I ALWYAS had difficulty drawing hands.:$:unsure
The airplanes are unique, and can only be see in my imagination, therfore its difficult to put them into perspective, let alone convey them onto paper.
i tried to keep the airplanes to LOOK like airplanes. A lot of time if you come up with e NEW design of a flying machine it tends to let the person wonder what it is and its becomes difficult to relate to. Thus why I did my own spin on a B-52.
The "medalion" looking itme is actuallly a drawing of a peice of alien technology, and from my imagination. This one conveyd to paper rather well, even though its difficult to explain what it is.But trust, me that pretty much how I wanted it to look.

Re: I can't find the old "art" tread, so...

I really enjoy the art threads! Great work done by everyone! Looking at what people on here can do, from computer graphics to paintings to sculptures, it honestly spurs me to work harder. These types of threads need to be on here a lot more often. :)

Now this isn't anything fancy, just a t-shirt design, but it was fun to work on and I did it for my oldest brother and the blues society he's a member of for their latest shirts. Hope you like it. :)

I love it!! Being a blues musician and fan, AND a Fender devotee, this hits home.
Nice job!

Re: I can't find the old "art" tread, so...

Thanks, Indy! My brother liked the "Flounder" logo on the amp, and he plays a Tele so I figured that helped out a bit to get this used as their design. :D

I'm a Fender fan too, and have a 99 American Standard hardtail Strat with a natural finish showing the ash body. If I get to do another shirt for them, I want to work the Strat in there.

Staermose, that's pretty cool. Makes me think of a drunk "Howard the Duck".

Well, thats more or less what he is. It's a french comic book character called Canardo by the artist Benoit Sokal.
