NEW Primer Questions

I went to the store and found the Minwax Sanding sealer for 13 bucks. No biggie. I looked at the one right next to it and the store sign said they would no longer carry it so it was on clearance for 2.97 regularly 10 something.

Being puzzled, I took it to the front desk and asked the person what the difference was. She said not much, and asked me what I was doing. Naturally, the project I am working on became a small "bench" for my mom. The guy to me to just get a 1-2-3 primer. He said that the sandable stuff would not stick to Krylon and who ever told me that didn't know what he was talking about. (I was internally laughing at this point)

He put the doubt in my head though. Which one should I get if I am going to use the Krylon chrome paint? The primer, or the sandable seal by a company called "bullseye."

Anymore help would appreciated.

If I am painting wood that I am going to paint chrome, what is a good primer to use? Also, will the primer fill in the cracks and chip marks if it is sandable?

Any help would be appreciated.

I think what you're looking for is Sanding Sealer. Fills the cracks and the wood grain so you can paint over it as if it were smooth as glass. Remember to sand between coats.

Yep sanding sealer is also what I use. I use the kind made by minwax. Just remember wetter is not better in this case. The wetter you make the wood with the sealer.........the more it raises the grain. So do it in several coats.......sanding between each to get the smoothest surface. Then 3 coats of primer with sanding should give you a pretty nice clean glassy finish.
