SICK ALIEN PEP FIES WHERE DID YOU GET THEM OR CAN YOU EMAIL THEM TO MEYa I have 2 versions, one of them I have applied texture to..... also I have unfolded a untextured head to 1:1 scale and have also now applied a texture to that. I am experimenting with textured items by building one and applying a thin coat of clear silicone bath sealant, which see's to give it a lovely fixed, strong skin and the to fibreglass this inside as normal, will post the results when done, hoping the do this with alien parts so that an alien costume can be constructed this way.
Anyway here are a few pitcures.
Here are the Alien head both untextured and now textured.

Hi Movieman
been downloading your pep stuff and will have to say first your amazing. ive got one helm and half a back pack made so far and they looking ace.
wanted to ask about resin, i been reading what you put and some others on other post but had some problem with the tissue. i resin + hardner yesterday on the outside of my helm and it worked out nice, today i came to do the same on the inside but add fibreglass tissue i got from ebay, the problem i seem to have was that the fibreglass wudnt stay down as i pasted over it and kept sticking to everything but the helm. i got in such a mess i could peel the layer of tissue off and then just fibfeglass the inside. what am i doing wrong? i really want to fibre tissue it so its more hard so i can use it as a prop.
any help would be great please

Did you resin the card first and let set.... when laying fibreglass fibre of any kind..... apply a good coat of resin first then lay the mat... then with your brush soaked with resin stipple the mat into place.... if your brush is to dry the mat will stick to the brush.... keep stippling with the tip of the brush until all air traps have gone....you can smooth and drag the the mat with the brush... smoothing can be done with very light brush strokes across the surface til all fibres are lay down. Takes a little practice to get the feel of it... 2 to 3 layers is best for a strength greater that vac form plastics. remember plenty of resin but not so much as to flood it.

Ps... allow the fibreglass to set before apply bondo or in the UK case P38 car body filler.
Fibreglass tissue is easier to work with than full weight fibreglass mat, Tissue matting is used also as a last layer coating on fibreglass molds that have been made with normal matting to give a professional, tidy, smooth finish to the mold jacket. Thanks for the quick reply.
I have put resin layer on now as i was trying to just add the inside coat at the same time as putting on the tissue, so now as i have a coat already i just need to now lay the tissue down and then put another coat of resin on top. With the layer i already have down it sounds like the tissue should be easier to work with, yesterday i was putting the sheet on the helm and then trying to paste on top this was breaking the sheet apart and every time i moved the brush it just took the whole sheet up.
Well what i will do now is then try the same thing but as i already have a layer of resin on my helm it should work out alot better.
Thanks Movieman ill let you know how it goes.
Keep up the good work

After many unfolds I have finally reached the near end of the alien head.... this unfold will come with 2 choses... with or without the head dome. The scale is set to 40" for the length of the head, which I believe is about the right scale after some research online.... I have decided not to unfold the teeth as it would be easier to hand make better ones in milliputt or something like that, the teeth are included in the PDO file but if you want them you can unfold them.... to much fiddly work for me to bother with. The item come in a mere 200 parts and 31 pages, the first attempt came out at 50 odd pages and over 300 parts. This is why it took so long for me to upload anything else.... I have the rib cage to do next and then the tail. from this you could build a full Alien costume.
I recommend if building a costume to fibreglass the inside of the items to give them support, but on the outside a good coating of clear bathroon silicone sealant as a skin, this can be colours by mixing artist oil paints into the silicone.... and also the best way to paint it as nothing sticks to silicone but silicone....if you need a wash coat, mix silicone and paint and thin by using a little paint thinners until it has reach the desired mixture.
I will be upload this unfold in the next few days... so keep a watchout......... hope you like it.
i love it are you going to be doing the legs and arms too???
steve
