New Member -1St Predator Suit Buildup

Were on our way up to Universal in Orlando to check out the AVP at Halloween horror nights. I gues it's another weekend with no work on the suit. My deadline is getting closer. We just reserved our hotel for Megacon2015. Rooms are going fast not much left near the convention center.

I got the bio all painted and the tri laser installed. Just need to glue in the dreads.

The Shuriken is compete. It came out really good for a 1st time test piece. It's a bit big and I don't know if I want to lug it around a Con. all day. It might have to stay home or get sold.

I recut the dagger in a different wood with some better images for the engraving. The engraving came out a lot cleaner and the wood sands easier than the MDF. I was able to get a nice form on the side of the handle. The dagger will look amazing with some painted and will defiantly be with me at the Con.

I have a few issues that need to be cleared up and looking for some advise.

I was thinks about forgoing the backpack and just making a mini shoulder mount plasma cannon ?

I need to figure out how to handle the feet cheap. I was thinking about making some foam lifted flip flops. The armor and spikes would cover the top. I would like to gain at least a few inches in height.

Also need some advise on the eye screen for my bio. I was not able to find any screen the looked good. I was thinking a thin plastic sheet with some mirrored window tint ?

It's been a while since my last post but I have not had much time to work on stuff. We have been taking advantage of our Halloween Horror nights passes and going every weekend. It's so much fun just sitting there watching the chain saw guys chasing the people around.

I have a bunch of stuff 90% done and I finally put all the items I had made on at once. For a first fitting of all the individual pieces fit together very well and the whole package had a nice flow. I'm very satisfied with my height with the boots which have a 5 inch lift and the bio helmet. My daughter is very tall and I'm quite a bit taller then her in full outfit. I did break 2 of the toe spikes off the boots while testing them. They were made from MDF, so cut them off and remade them from 1/4 craft foam. Problem solved.

I played around a bit more and did some cutting and engraving of craft foam on the laser. I was really please with the results. The engraving was deep and I could adjust the power to get different textures. The cuts were nice a sharp with very little melting or taper. The belt is what came from  my playing around. All laser cut and engraved craft foam.

I started work on the computer gauntlet. I'm still trying to figure out how to light this thing up. Electronics are not my strong suit. I was amazed I got the lases working in the mask. Also nioeed to figure out what to do for a eye shield on the bio

I also go the dagger all complete and painted - it came out really great.

Made some new blades for my gauntlet. construction is 2 pieces of MDF with a thin alum center. I was able to keep the light and strong and create some great details. They look really good with the chrome spray paint.

It's been a while since my last post but here it is.

I got the Bio mostly compete. Just need some air brushing on the back. The lenses was a bit hard to figure out. I tries all sorts of things from perforated material to window tint. I could not get anything that looked good and I could see out of. I ended up with some stainless window screen. It was really open at first and you could see right into the mask. The key was a lot of paint to fill in the holes and make it so you can't see in but I can see out.

I also started working on my plasma caster. I chose the model from AVP Requiem because there were so many images and it seemed to fit best with my armor. All the individual pieces were laser cut and glued together at different levels. I still have a lot of details to finish and a lot of sanding and painting but it's coming along a lot better than I expected. Its has been quit a learning experience.

My computer gauntlet is also compete. The symbols are backlit but it's not very bright. Might have to swap out for different LEDs.

Your level of detail on all of your pieces is phenomenal!  I can't wait to see the final suit up, it'll all come together nicely.  Well done.

Thanks , I appreciate it. I work in fine detail at a machine shop. My painting and color skills are where I lack. But i'm practicing and learning a lot here.
.

I got my plasma caster all assembled and primed ready for paint. I made some acrylic pieces that fit in the cutouts on the top piece. These will have the symbols just like the original.

I need to work out a mount for my armor and paint.

I also had some space on my belt I needed to fill so a made a few of the bomb things. I could not find their real name or purpose but they look cool. Just need some LEDs for the slots.

Got a bunch more work done and it's time for a update.

I got the plasma caster all painted and mounted to the armor. I was concerned because I did not do a test fit with the helmet before I got is done but there were no interference issues. Got lucky on this one.

Net shirt is done. I used some hockey netting I purchased off eBay. This netting is nice and thick but did not allow for any stretch to get a tight fit or any movement. Instead of hot gluing the joins like some people suggested I made some loops from black elastic and used these to make the joints. I used Velcro in combination with the elastic on one side so I can get the shirt on. The shirt now fits nice snug and allows for total movement with the elastic. I ordered some arm netting gloves also from eBay. These match the net shirt. They fit tight and no seams.

I revised the mounting of my gauntlets so I can get a snug fit and hide the seam. I started with a Velcro seam along the length at the bottom. This did not allow for much adjustment and the foam at the seam would not lay flat.

Instead of this I put the seam at the top of the gauntlet. This allowed me to use a adjustembe Velcro strap. This way I can hide the seam by mounting my gauntlet blades and computer with Velcro hidden under the side tubing.
