New Hasbro Toy Lightsabers

Yes, but it is just too early. LFL is trying to keep stuff under wraps and showing new items would give away more than that want at the moment. Maybe we can get some peeks at Celebration an SDCC.

If I were a betting man, I'd say they're going to roll out the full product line and the launch trailer at SDCC.

Also, for the sake of putting info out there:

If you go to the store, you will notice that the telescoping hilts (the non electronic style) have new packaging but there are also some changes:

- The hilts are no longer painted silver. They are now bare molded plastic which is more towards the gray side. Good because kid play will not show as much wear. Bad because you see the swirling imperfections in the plastic.

- The red permanent arrow on the switch plate is gone.

- The Anakin hilt has added black paint detail in the little charge/prong hole near the emitter.

- The Covertec style knob is not a smaller style that would work in US style cell phone carriers. It is now closer in size and appearance to the actual Covertec knob. However from the look of the small gap on the knob, it does not look functional. The stupid hook is still there.

I made that post a year ago. I recently looked at the ones in new packaging. If I recall correctly, they have gone back to painting the hilts instead of just the molded gray plastic color.

the other thing I noticed, which is either new or I missed it last year, the activation plat is now nonfunctional. The blade is released by simply flicking your wrist.

If I were a betting man, I'd say they're going to roll out the full product line and the launch trailer at SDCC.

new info being posted is that the street date for Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise is 4 September. So I am sure you will see them there but most likely I think one of the earlier reveals will be during Star Wars Celebration in April.

'Star Wars' toy line lets kids build dream lightsabers

Hasbro is making sure that by the time the new movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives in December, kids can have any lightsaber they can imagine.
Launching this fall, Star Wars Bladebuilders debuts a line of compatible hilts, connectors and various lightsaber materials that let children use the simple gadgets of their favorite Jedi masters and Sith lords or come up with the craziest, most complicated combination ever. The line will be on display at New York City's Toy Fair Saturday through Tuesday.
"Star Wars is such a magical property and in particular the lightsaber is — and I think everyone would agree — the most iconic weapon of all time," says Kim Boyd, senior director of the Star Wars brand for Hasbro. While the company has offered various roleplay lightsaber toys over the years, "this is the first time we've given kids the chance to customize through an entire system."

The main Jedi Master Lightsaber set (for ages 4 and up, $49.99 includes a lightsaber with lights and electronic sounds, a pair of lightdaggers, an expansion hilt and a variety of connectors.
From there, kids can mIx and match from three other assortments with connectors and lightsaber blades tied to various characters. The electronic lightsaber ($19.99) comes in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker flavors, the foam lightsaber ($14.99) has Yoda, Vader and Luke variants, and the extend lightsaber ($9.99) offers something for Luke, Vader and Anakin Skywalker fans.
Because research has shown kids interested in customization, Boyd says, it seemed like a natural fit to combine that concept "with the lightsaber and the desire for young children to want to become Jedi and command the Force."
One of the biggest positives of toys like this is it gets kids playing with others, she adds. "With the Star Wars property as a whole, because it's rich with storytelling and conflict and triumph, it lends itself more to a social play."

Very interesting. We're getting both a basic and electronic Luke ROTJ and the "foam" saber at the bottom appears to be based on the Luke ESB.

I was watching CNBC when the CEO of Hasbro was one showing off some new toys and he had these sabers on the table but they didn't have a chance to discuss them. I was bummed...but I did add to my position in HAS stock. :)

I was thinking about that too. The next few years should be very lucrative.

Interesting news but I don't see how they can make the build your lightsabers more screen accurate considering that all of the hilts that I've seen are all oversized.

I take that with a grain of salt. I take that to mean more accurate than previously offered. The previous offerings were from the first custom lightsaber parts offered in retail stores. That base hilt used the old flashlight bulb system. A few years later, Hasbro came out with a set during the Unleashed video game run and the hilt's based used a LEDs and Disney later switched their offering to those parts. However even with the multiple parts to choose from, you could try to approximate a certain character's saber but it just that, an approximation. I am thinking that they will have new parts which has better details for know hilts. Also, the recent Hasbro electronic lightsaber hilts have gotten pretty close to actual size. Maybe they can get a decent sized base hilt that can accommodate added parts without oversizing the hilt too much.

BTW: Anyone interested in Hasbro toy lightsabers for your collection, you may want to get them soon. Not sure if everyone noticed but with that new Lightsaber custom set shown at NYTF this year, all the different lightsaber models offered coming this fall will have the stupid clipped-in pommel system so that modify it to a multiple blade monstrosity.

Some info regarding the future of the FX lines.

http://www.sirstevesguide.com/2015/04/24/star-wars-celebration-anaheim-hasbro-qa-with-joe-ninivaggi/

SSG: You’re offering several new takes on the role play lightsaber this year, with foam, and the Bladebuilders line. I see you have the current Force FX lightsabers down there. Are there plans to continue the Ultimate FX or the Force FX lines, or connect them with the Bladebuilders at all?

JN: For Ultimate FX, what we have on display right now is really the only kid-focused, fan-focused lightsabers that we can really talk to. Force FX, what you see is what’s in our existing line. We love Force FX. You can expect that to continue, and we’ll definitely have some fresh stuff.

"Force FX... expect that to continue"
OK so will there be a re-release of the Luke removeable blade or an Episode 7 version for the "fresh stuff".

I get and understand the sarcasm. I think they probably will. I only hope it's modified to the correct details for the movie.

I honestly think they will have a Kylo Ren lightsaber. I think it's going to be too iconic to avoid. Personally, I'd like Kanan lightsaber.

I wonder if Luke still has his same lightsaber. Seems like JJ is goin for consistency. Even though it would be very plausible for Luke to have lost and built a new saber with new design, my bet would be for the Return of the Jedi style.

I wonder if/who else has lightsabers.

I was in a Disney store yesterday (no luck on the new blasters, but they said they're an outlet and get everything after everyone else) and noticed some new ultimate FX style sabers with vibration on clash. They had the Yoda (not the regular one, this one has a recessed activation button instead of a box) and a Vader (curiously, the ROTS design). One thing that set them apart from the usual toy saber is that they had rubber grips. Also, they were only 29.99 verses the 39.99 pricing of the usual ones in TRU or Target. Finally, all Star Wars product is (was?) 30% off. The die cast vehicles were tempting, including the Falcon with "accurate" height sidewalls.
