Thinking about it I think he would have saved more people by staying in his tenth incarnation than by sacrificing himself. He did the right thing I suppose but Wilf was old, he wouldn't last much longer anyway and The Doctor could have put his self sacrifice to a better use.
Or, here's what I would ideally have liked to happen. The Master is not sucked back into the time lock. The Doctor did what he did last time he was regenerating and only heal himself with the regenerative energy, pouring the rest into The Master so his life force stabilizes, The Master escapes and vwala, life goes on. The Doctor lives and The Master continues to wreck havoc on everyone and everything he comes across, leaving The Doctor very busy.
Okay, here's the thing about the Tennant "movies" - they're pretty much junk. And I'm not talking about the "even the worst Who is better than the rest of what's on TV" sort of junk, I'm talking about just plain junk (I'm not counting "The Next Doctor" among the 'movies', just the three that followed).
I'll admit, Tennant's final regeneration was pretty emotional and it was an utterly genius and heart-breaking moment when you find out WHO did the knocking, but the rest of it was junk. And, as long as I'm complaining about the episode, Tennant's regeneration was WAY too drawn-out and emo (Also, I had to go for quite a while dreading that the regenerated-Doctor's new catch phrase was "Geronimo").
I don't know... Tennant was great, but for every really great moment, there was another crappy emo moment to counter-act the greatness.
Even though Eccleston was my first Doctor (well, technically Tom Baker was, but I was way too young to care about Doctor Who), my favorite Doctor is still Matt Smith.
Eccleston really nailed the character for me.
Agree for the most part although I thought from that last episode the talk with Wilf up on the ship was good. Definitely could have done without the "goodbye tour" though.

Yeah, the "goodby tour" was garbage.
It was a special time lord bullet... :lol
Well you never know. Wilf might be a time lord turned human by a chameleon arch... or something stupid like that.

The Whoniverse thread never dies. It just regenerates.
I have this odd feeling that now that we are 2.5 seasons away from it, that we'll probably never know.
Not sure if this is the place to mention it, the Whoniverse conversation appears to be dead. But I listened to a Big Finish audio that was really good and this was a part I liked.

We got to see Sarah Jane Smith one last time. That's good enough for me.
Nah. He's a retired policeman. Was in the second Doctor Who movie.![]()
We didn't see Sarah Jane, we saw Luke.
