New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Unless Gallifreyans have an entirely different concept of name in regards to self, I'm going to be very disappointed if Hurt is a different regen but doesn't count because he doesn't/didn't call himself the Doctor.

It'd be a bit like me changing my name, robbing a bank, changing it back and saying, "Nope, wasn't me who robbed that bank."

I figured we might as well revive this thread for the 50th as well with a BANG!

So...in essence, it wasn't a "Timelord Regeneration" so it doesn't count? I'm okay with that. Not the most creative solution, but it's better than half of the "We need to restart the universe...again" stuff that Moffat comes up with. And since it was an artificial regen, a chosen regeneration, it wouldn't count toward the Timelord tally. So, 8.5 it is!

Also, I may have screamed like a schoolgirl when McGann first came on screen...but luckily no one was around to hear it.

Ok, so I squeed when I saw McGann. I am so happy that a) He is in it and b) It was kept spoiler free. (Wonder what else they've successfully kept secret?) The only problem now is I want to see more adventures with the Eighth Doctor.

Great idea using the Sisterhood to sidestep the regeneration problem, but does this mean he can just drink another elixir next time he's dying and avoid using a regeneration? Makes you wonder how many other Timelords know about this cheat. Of course, they could always get around it by saying the Sisterhood were victims of the Time War/Time Lock.

But to repeat: more Doc #8, please!

Well, if they ever want to bring the sisters back, something tells me it might make for an interesting Master storyline...then again, maybe a little creative retconning would have us believe that the "elixir" used to bring him back in the End of Time was based on the Sisters' work.

We've all seen the Brain of Morbius. It's not like the Sisters are running a Jamba Juice on Karn. They keep that stuff locked up tight and they're pretty nimble with rope and nets and voodoo shenanigans.

It was very nice to see the 8th doctor again. I just hope we could have seen a few more stories with him but it wouldn't have made the impact it has. It would have been a nice filler between the end of nu series 7 and the 50th though. Now I hope we see the regen of the war doctor to 9.

Ditto, very nice seeing 8 and his regen. I like the classic style sonic, but it felt weird having the more modern sound effect to it. Interesting that the War Doctor seemed to have brown hair after the regeneration. How much worse does that make the Doctor's age discrepancies if he was that incarnation long enough to go gray/white with how slowly Time Lords age?

Fingers crossed tight that they somehow convinced Chris to have some part in this anniversary, even if it's just some token appearance for Hurt's regeneration.

It occurs to me that Moffat has now written dialogue/canon material featuring half the Doctors. That's kinda cool imo.

The sound effect used is pretty much the same sound effect used for decades. Tom Bakers sonic also used the same sound as the new series...so nothing REALLY new there.

I loved the mini episode. Fantastic to see 8 again and the clever twists of the episode.

I was wondering about the War Doctor's age, too. It seems the Time War raged for perhaps hundreds of years more from the time he joined to what i assume is its conclusion in the 50th.

Minor gripe. If the Time War was affecting the rest of the universe then it's odd that we have NEVER seen anyone react to the Doctor in the same way Cass did upon the hint of dimensional transcendentalism. Did time-locking the war erase the memories of at least most of the species in the universe?

What with 10 describing time as 'Wibbly-wobbly' and 11 explaining how memories can contain more than one history (when he told Amy how she could remember growing up both with and also without her parents), my guess is that Time-locking the Time War meant that after a long time it achieved legendary/mythical status as it faded from reality but remained in other ways.
Eventually all that people recall of the war and the Timelords is due to The Doctor, and since he continued to go around saving people/worlds etc, the first reaction wouldn't be like Cass.

Definitely looks like there's a lot of Oncoming Storm to take him from this:

I think it's interesting that they chose to start the War Doctor out so young. I also wonder if that will be addressed in the special.

I'm also interested in knowing how much of the audios have now been canonized. Hell, I guess this means Susan and Alex are more or less on the cards now as characters that could be included in future tv stories. Not that I think they WOULD ever do that. I'm not overly familiar with the Eighth Doctor audios, books etc but the names he referenced in NotD were strictly audio companions, right?

Ha.Speaking of the Doctor's age. Was watching TNotD with a friend and afterwards she said that she'd have preferred a "younger" Doctor like McGann instead of the "older" Capaldi. :)

I watched the mini-sode again this morning. I got the impression that the sisters elixir didn't 'replicate' the regeneration, it just amplified it...made it less random I believe they said, so 8 could choose who he needed to become. I'm not sure that that's the re numbering outer that Moffat has planned. It's too weak.
