New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

I think that Moffat quote is complete bull. No way they haven't got a clue who's taking the role at this point.

As for a balding Doctor, no thanks.

Why should a receding hairline be any sort of disqualifier for being the Doctor?

Personally? I wouldn't be as inclined to put the costume together. Since costuming is a big part of why I'm a fan of the show (almost all that's left really) that matters to me. He could be great as the Doctor, I haven't seen him act. But as long as nothing's set in stone I've got my fingers crossed for a guy with short curly brown hair. Make it easy for once maybe, haha.

I very much doubt he's the new Doctor, but I think he'd be interesting - especially if he turned out to be more of a proper British / Avengers type Doctor. I think it would be neat to see a Doctor more like 7 - one who would threaten to destroy your entire invasion fleet while calmly enjoying a cup of tea.

I don't care if he's balding, especially if he wears, say, a bowler, but I do think that they might loose the connection with younger audiences.

With the sex appeal DW has nowadays, I think they'll have to go with as younger actor with a proven marketable look in order to keep certain fans watching.

Look at it as insurance, in case you ever start to lose what's on top ;-)

Not something I'm worried about at all based on family history, but I am more interested in the actual costume than the hair. And who knows, maybe it's just time.

I don't get the problem with the Doctor having a receding hairline, is it supposed part of DW canon that Time Lords do not bald or something? As I recall, Eccleston had something of a receding hairline, just a bit or he just has a natural widow's peak. Regardless, even if they choose an actor who's as bald Prof. X they can easily remedy that with this wonderful new invention called a wig.

Peter Davison had very very thin hair when he took the role over, it was long yeah but it was very thin, I personally would prefer to see a slightly mature looking Doctor, heck I would LOVE to see Anthony Stewart Head in the role

I want them to get a Doctor in his 30s or 40s. They could still keep the younger audience with the right actor.

Was just thinking about Clara and her splinters.

If Victorian Clara had travelled in the Tardis would she still have gone to Trenzalore with the Doctor? Would Modern Clara have been a splinter of Victorian Clara?

If each Splinter were born in each time period then it's possible that each Clara is as real as the next and that she effectively created herself.

Good points. I began to think about it all too. Was each Clara existing only as a splinter in that moment (And as such instantly injected into the memories of those she interacted with), or was she born and lived until the Doctor came along and needed her? If so, how could she be born of different mothers with a completely different DNA composit?

Oh wait, that can't be, as Dalek Clara was a computer wiz, which modern day Clara didn't get until she was uploaded and downloaded back from the great intelligence, so that means that Dalek Clara was 'after' modern day Clara, except that none of it happened UNTIL the Doctor's time stream, which did not have Doc's 12 or 13 in it, which means that he DIES for good as the 11th Doctor, except for the fact that we know he will regenerate in two more stories....

I just realized, I don't care anymore....and I still am sick of Clara!

It would also seem (if the episodes we have seen so far are any indication) that as soon as she is done turning the Doctors defeats into victories she dies each time.

I'm finally caught up and...yeah, that last episode was fun, but confusing if you think about it too long. I've decided that my approach to Moffat's era as producer is to just sit back, enjoy the ride, and try not to focus too much on explaining how exactly everything works. I'm more into the fun of it, and the emotion of it. I do think, however, that Moffat has tried to be a bit TOO clever at times, and go a bit TOO big. I thought that the Russel T. Davies era was a bit better at pulling off grand finales and plots strung through the series. Although even his approach got tired after a while.

As for additional regenerations, the guy just entered his own DNA/time-stream/whoosit. I think they could simply have him kind of undo his regeneration limit that way, and it was simply something that Time Lords didn't do (or couldn't do because they didn't know where their graves were).

As for Clara, I like her. She's cute and fun and I'm liking that she's not in luuuuuuurv with the Doctor the way Amy kinda was, and Martha DEFINITELY was, and Rose ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY was, and River mostly was.

I'm bored with River, though. I don't feel like they've used her effectively or ever really explained how/why the Doctor loved her and married her.

And as for John Hurt, I'm thinking he's either pre-First Doctor (e.g., before he took his title), or something like the Valeyard that operates as an inter-regenerational-iteration of the Doctor.

Or, John Hurt is an almagamation of every incarnation, the parts that 'would do' darker things were it not for his internal moral code.

Like when you see a kid be rude to an older person and you get a mental image of punting the little rat across the freeway, but don't!

What if the John Hurt Doctor it "that" Doctor made from all parts of his past selves?

It'll be interesting to see what they come up with, but either way, I don't think he'll be an "official" number.

I agree with Solo. I'm actually hoping they go with the unofficial number of the doctor. it would make a heck of a lot more sense

It seems like a coincidence but this just came up in my facebook feed!

No, it didn't count multi-Doctor appearances. But that was hardly the only mistake with my numbers (example 10 & 11). Musta been tired yesterday. This is a FAR more accurate list, with explanatory notes.

Does the first/second doctor times include the missing episodes? Because i've watched/listened to all those as well :)
