New BMF coming

Geesh I wonder why my store has them at $30. Maybe I should grab the rest for the folks here.
These things seem to be a store-by-store, case-by-case thing. The Wal-Mart closest to my office has never had a single one of these on the sales floor. The one closer to home, about 16 miles away from the other, had them and still did a few days ago. But here's a case in point; my wife bought some ice cream bowls on clearance at the one closer to home -- they were 25 cents each. The store closer to my office had the same bowls on one of the clearance aisles, but there they were $1 each.

Meanwhile, Walmart Canada doesn't believe in clearance - they're apparently going to stubbornly stick it out at seventy bucks for the Falcon. Sigh. In other news, I'm feeling wwwwwaaaaaaaaay too self satisfied this morning, having cast my very first resin piece ever, and am starting to churn out some engine vents from the Legacy Falcon. I was hoping to just drop very thin casts in on top of the HS vents as I do not at ALL like how this polypropylene stuff files and sands and I'm concerned about cutting nice, clean circles out of the engine deck, but it looks like the BMF vents are ever so slightly too big so there's not much option.
Some tips with cutting this plastic, favourite tip on this thread was heat to plastic as it cuts easier, I can vouch for this method, prior to heating it was hard to control the blade, after heating you can keep control of the cut , nice and gentle.
I tried dremel , resulting surface described aptly as Swiss cheese texture , again another tip here that I found has better results and control.....micro chisels, whether sharpened screwdrivers or micro chisels , very good finish compared with anything else. Sharp and slow controlled paring has the best results.

Looking good , remind us of the colour mix you used here

Thanks:) The primer coat is Krylon Fusion Satin White # 2420, then preshading the panel lines in Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black. The final shade is a loose copy of Lear60man's mix. I used three 10ml bottles of Tamiya XF-2 Flat White, added two drops of XF-1 Flat Black, then about 6 or 7 drops of Tamiya XF-55 Deck Tan. Where Lear60man started in the center of each panel and worked his way out to the panel lines, I just misted over the entire model until the lines gradually faded to where you see it now. Either way works fine:) Like I said, there's still a ton of weathering left...all the little splatters and streaks and so on. For the streaks , I intend to use pastel chalks ground to a powder on a piece of sandpaper and applied with a fine pointed brush. NOT looking forward to that:lol

Yeah, so far I've done the cutting by heating with a hairdryer (it's a little worrying just how soft it gets, and I'm paranoid about accidentally leaving it warped while working on it), an Xacto and trying to clean it up with micro files - it kinda gets smooth...ish, but I'm still hoping primer will hide a bit of the uglies. Still, the thought of trying to get a nice, clean, circular openings makes me nervous about starting...

Crappy cell phone pic of my paint progress....still a long way to go. Waiting on some Boxcar Red acrylic to arive from Amazon.

That base colour just screams ESB! Looking great, and yeah, you've got to share the recipe :) EDIT - doh! you did while I was typing :)

Oh, I might add that I've had ZERO issues with chipping or peeling while handling or when masking the panels for painting. For me, at least, the Krylon Fusion worked out great:)

Just a heads up: a lucky few have found these clearenced down to 15 dollars. My closest Walmart has 2 left at 30 bucks. I asked the manager if they'd price match but they only price match competitors, not other wmarts.

Same manager did enlighten me to the fact that wmarts now have a "smart" inventory system, meaning if a store's sitting on 10 Falcons the system will continue lowering price, where a store with 2 Falcons will hover at same price. (Meaning my local wmart is not gonna go any lower...my luck).

My point is, if you live in a large area look for big wmarts with lots of Falcons to find the coveted 15 dollar piece of junk.
(And if this leads you to 15 buck falcons and you're near TN, help a guy out? :))

thank you Robert, looks brilliant, makes me want to stop cutting and start painting

Hey y'all. I just received Tony's Long Cockpit Cone from Shapeways.. It looks great! However, in their zeal to protect the part during shipping, Shapeways over stuffed the box with bubble pack causing the cone shape to become distorted to an oval shape. It was not broken, just distorted. To fix it, I pushed the cone into the docking port that had been removed from the Falcon, then heated it up with a hair dryer. A couple of minutes in the freezer for a quick cool down, and it is back in the round. Hope this helps if anyone else has this problem.

Many thanks for the tip!

And glad that you liked my part!

We have to look close at this oval shape, just in case is a misprint. Luckily it can be easily fixed the way you told us.

Thanks again!

Tony, the shape was probably fine after it was printed. I think it was probably due to being over stuffed with packing material in the box. Just to clarify, I inserted the aft end of the cockpit into the inside of the docking port.

Thanks for all the great parts Tony! Any plans for Jaw Box details?

Fantastic work there, love seeing these painted up and that looks brilliant already :)

Thanks:) I can't wait to see it finished. I've always wanted an accurate Falcon, but the Ertl was too much work and the Fine Molds WAY to expensive(for me, anyway) There are so many options with this "toy". I just wish they would do a Star Destroyer lol

Very nice painting job. The grey is correct. The panels look nice and come out of the surface.

On my MPC I'm using the Tamiya Deck Tan too.

Thanks.

I've already designed the complete jawbox; upper, down and backwall too. I'm waiting to check if everything is fine, and after that I will put on sale on SW.
