New BMF coming

Correct me if Im wrong, but the filming 32" and five footer didnt have an engine grill?

Rob you know me too well haha
The engine grill is more a product of the S.E. from the 90's. In Star Wars/Empire/Jedi the engine is just solid white... However one would think there would be something there if the engines weren't on full blown glow. :)

Just for fun with apologies to FZ6

Hi guys I'm trying to make a super accurate photoshop comp of the different models so see if extending the panels would be better than pushing the side walls in, so far if you want to make the hsmf look like the 5' pushing panels out is better, I will post pics tomorrow but I'm having trouble finding a dead on shot of the 32"from above (or below) any help?

Also my 2 pence is i'm going to have the engine look like the filming models but when the lights are on it will show a bit of criss cross detail, but not dark lines just faint. A bit blue where the details with most of it white.

Thanks J but it needs to be straight on above, I'll check the link thanks :)
Its doing my head in, I've looked in the chronicles, sculpting a galaxy, big making of empire and even the good old archives book, no square on shots I must be missing something.

The best I've got of underside:

....as I said on an earlier post, the 32" was a stunt model, any lingering shots of a Falcon model in the films was the higher detailed 5 footer...apart from the medical frigate shot.

All the technical drawings in the Haynes book are the 32"

Throwing my 2 cents around on this one...I think extending the plates out is a bad idea because you are trying to fix something that is not correct, by doing something else that is not correct. Now I could be wrong..but it just looks like the as-is sidepanels/rear panels are pushed out to about where the extreme most details would stick out. Also the plastic is very mushy and once you have the panels hang over more you risk being able to damage the plastic if you give it to a kid to play with.(Not what we worry about, but hasbro does) I have already dug out the middle side panel and will be working on the rest soon. You may want to hang in there and see just how awesome, or horribly wrong my adventure goes :)
If you go about trying to compare images, make sure you ONLY look at the 32 inch vs the hasbro... If you throw in the 5-footer, there are some tiny things going on that make you believe something is a certain way, when it is not. This toy is clearly based on the 32 inch one.

These are the images that pushed me into pushing the Middle/Rear walls in.

I'll post comps tomorrow night but this is what I can see at the mo,
my current 32" ref is the maruska plans.
If you want it to look like the 32" then you can't really extend the back panels but you def can the front and should. I'll look for haynes pic tomorrow and chuck them is too as its late here now.
*If you want it to look like the 5' then you definitely can extend all the panels and actually, really should.*(Previous sentence between asterisks has been proved wrong, only front panels could be improved by extending because of better Hsmf comps made 7 dec 14) It would make the back feather bits make sense then as they stick out to far for either model.
They are very interesting comps, very handy :)

The mandibles are def closer 32" scale but the back feathers and cockpit area are close to 5' in fact if you want the cockpit/canopy to be like the 5' you don't extend it you "just" need to somehow replicate the details just behind it 5mm further back.

Still laughing pal!!!! :lol:D

You're making me feel like ED209, but I swear that my markup is very low compared with the design labour hours... :) The Extra Ultra Super Mega Frosted Detail is the culprit :devil

Seriously though. Once you have a master how hard would it be to 3d print the bulk of a Falcon model. Then just press the magic size button from 32" to 5 feet :)

Cool. I was hoping you would appreciate it. I was not really making fun of your prices but more of the fact that we seem to be celebrating this great toy that has Hasbro has given us and yet we're spending a fortune on replacing almost every part of it. I just turned up the volume to 11.

Very true...When I was looking at the 5 footer...I was bouncing back and forth as to how to go about it. I guess my other worry is that extending the panels would present a few other problems that may actually get more complicated. I mean the real models look like they have cracked and broken around those panel overhangs.

No it's not, this toy is the 'greatest hits of the Millennium Falcon',......most of it is from the 32", but there are key elements from the 5 footer:D

J
Yeah...I guess the more correct thing I should have said its "more" like the 32 than the 5. It's funny there were several things I though may have been wrong, or missing - then I looked at the 32 and more stuff seemed correct again .

Part of this is just the fun of it...but the other part is that its not a bad starting point. considering the only falcon I had for a very long time was the ATM model which is all kinds of wrong..and as a kid played with kenner's X-wing which I used to think looked like an xwing! :) If you could still get a MR FALCON for $2,500 bucks I might jump on it now. Seeing that they are $4,000-$8,000 bucks...that aint going to happen.(Not to mention the horrible ass paint job some of them have).. It would be super awesome to be able to 3d-print the whole thing...but I think that would end up costing $30,000 in parts :)

I have a funny feeling that HOT TOYS will start making ships in another year or so :) Let's hope it's a 1/6 scale falcon! :)
