New BMF coming

Maybe one of our shapeways masters can make new base panels that sit back the correct amount and still support the model??????? The you would just need to cut out the originals and set the new ones in. Seems much simpler than the amazing work already done.

It would be possible to design that parts in cheap white plastic, because I understand that they will be covered by the resin parts, doesn't it? I don't have my Hasbro yet, but if someone gives to me some measurements and the 2D drawings, I can replicate it.

James. About the cockpit it won't be resin casted by Mike because it has more than 150 pre drilled holes that are impossible to replicate. This is the main reason as Robiwon explained.

There is a ton of support stuff right behind the sidewalls, so its a ton of whacking involved. Moving them is not a plug and play thing to do. I think its worth it, but there is no simple fix for this....

But! I did find this
pls90423.jpg
It's Plastruct #90423.. Basically its 2 ladders that look like they will make an almost perfect drop in engine grill...It's just a tiny bit longer than you need width wise...and a tiny bit short height wise...but easy to fix. Price is about 4-8 bucks depending on where you go.

Updated: Took a quick pic with the "grill" taped over the sticker.

Very good find!

I will design the grilles from the Episode VII Falcon anyway, that are different, very similar but with different size.

The parts we are talking about moving are all just smooth panels that the stickers go on. So basically we need to cut out those panels...move them back a bit..and secure them . You can then safely put the awesome shapeway parts on them and you are good. However as I noted..the new parts will be a tiny bit "short" because as you move the panels you are going to gain some room on the top and bottom. This should be easy to fix by filling in those areas one way or another. My plans is to use the shapeway panels once I move the smoothed "sticker" panels back to the proper depth. I would say anyone not wanting to open this can of worms should be fine just pasting the panels in place where they are out of the box. The shapeway panels are very thin and designed to just plug and play. My only point is...I've already jumped into the deep end by ordering all the parts, I would regret not fixing this issue now ...as to me the pushed out default panel depth of the falcon out of the box reminds me too much of the old ATM model or something :)

You have to admit, for 4 bucks...its a home run for that price! It was funny I spotted this out the corner of my eye and I knew! bingo! :)...Anyhow...you can still do fancy nozzles underneath this, but this looks to me more or less like the outer grill on the fine molds pics posted in here..and it does "To me" look like the new falcon engine as well. However I'm sure you are right that the spacing or whatever is a little different....but $4-8 bucks! ...

Of course, 4 bucks is a bargain!!!
But I've encountered so many people that doesn't have so many skills to build a simple grill, that will be happy to buy my grill... Happy to help them! :cool

That makes sense.

I will need to order that bad boy and wait on the resin for the rest.

Sweeeettttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I new this odd toy would have good customization possibilities but I had no idea so much would happen so fast.

Yessss. The lower grille has big squares...FALCON TEASER DETAIL.jpg

About lighting you can use EL panels, electroluminiscent panels. I've used them on my MPC Falcon cabin. to lighten the backwall. They're very, very cheap. Available in a variety of colours, blue, light blue, white, green, red... Just tape EL panels on Ebay...

Yeah, I was just looking at that versus the Fine Molds.

Can you make one that matches the 32" for the new Hasbro as well as the Ep7 one ?

Of course! The grille is one of the parts I will design for the Hasbro -and the 32" if needed-. I will need the measurements. Waiting my Hasbro Falcon shipped from the UK...

I really don't "think" the bottom grills are bigger..To me it looks like the light is just bleeding in such a way to make some of them appear bigger.. If you scan the bottom row from side to side you can see they actually appear to mirror the top...kinda like the 2 ladders of plastuct. I've had a past that included some CG work..nothing this major..but it looks just like glow/light bleeding to me...I could be wrong tho..There is also motion blur and there could be exhaust blur going on too..that would further distort a still like this.

Update:
Here is a different frame..and that frame with brightness down...it really looks like its mirrored top to bottom..If you look at other frame the grills vanish as the light get brighter in sections. The light source is pushed in, so it never evenly comes out all the grills.

So the ladders actually look more like the NEW falcon..because after looking at this one really fuzzy one from the SE, looks like those are smaller/taller boxes..

I agree with you... but center light are a little off.... maybe it was digitally added?

I think whats going on is that the grill is actually a little bit deep... like a cubby hole..So on some parts you are seeing right into the engine light and some parts you are seeing the light reflected off the grills insides. Also I would GUESS that the actual engine light is a little deeper back... Then you add glow/blur/exhaust blur on top of that and you get various grill bars blending into the light, thats why we can see the edge grills (left/right) sides better than the center ones...So if you were using the 2 ladder idea...to match this you would need to build it up a bit as the ladders "HOLEs" aren't deep at all... Again I am basing this all off a 3 second clip! :) HA! Thats my 4 cents buddy...2 extra cents for you

p.s. Yeah you are also right...In doing digital effects, they certainly could have come back and done another pass of just a bright/glow light thats just floating in behind the ship...All digital magic and nothing based on reality. I know I have done some CG Vipers and have done just that for the engines :)

The ladders are brilliant TronGod

It would be amazing if they eventually show the rear of the Falcon nice & clear,....even better if they've included the engines on the full scale prop.

The Haynes Falcon manual, officially licenced by Lucasfilm in 2011, just before Disney bought them over, had some illustrations of how the engines look,....which corresponds to how FineMolds replicated them:

This is the FineMolds engine grille.....which I think looks a bit thick framed......compares to the Ep7:

This is how I intend to light the engines,....basically the way I've done my MPC,.....which still isnt finished:wacko

Jaitea that all looks awesome! Did you buy a light kit, or did you do that on your own? I am picking up a fine molds falcon while I still can now too :) Your falcon lights #2 does pretty much the same effect as the ep7 shot..the lights blur/blow out some of the grills as the camera moves.
