New BMF coming

I was just looking at it and I think just behind the lower gun mount. The six sided piece. Just behind that but still on the large circle piece would be perfect using the wood frame shared earlier in the thread. It does not have to be in the center so why not have both windows and guns.

So you are talking about the "Thing" that holds the gun in place? Or that the gun is attached to? Yeah that would not be a bad place..and..you can make it pop on and off. I've ordered a shapeways gun replacement, so the gun from the top of mine would go on the bottom if I follow your plan :)

I was going to (started on it anyhow) make a different frame that can be used to support my side walls being pushed in. I will post pics of it when done, and if it works out. . . but its something to consider.

The thingy by the whatchamacallit under the thingamabob. It's just left of the doodad.

I also saw some detail in the top turret of the 5 footer that I think looked darn good. Was just gonna do dark glass but I may try a gunner station.

Is anyone that has the capability planning to mold and cast the gunner turret window from the top of the Hasbro model for use on the bottom? I ask because I'm having a hard time justifying the purchase of another Hasnro model just for that window and I would definitely purchase that piece.

You could take mold putty (any craft store has this) and mold that piece and cast resin into that mold to make a duplicate.

The gun and turret are already on the way. My Guess is someone will do the window in resin or on shapeways.

The Hasbro Falcon is kind of a mess if you are trying to build a studio scale accurate falcon. "In general" the proportions are from the 5 footer and the details are from the 32 incher... with some obvious exceptions.

In order to be happy with your customization project you need to come to terms with this. the Hasbro falcon is an amazing starting point for a GREAT falcon, especially with the accurization pieces. BUT unless you're willing to rebuild everything to a specific studio falcon it will never be that. I think that is OK really - Its a toy... a really great toy, but a toy. With a good paintjob it will be totally awesome.

Get the kit and install it (with a stepped back sidewall or not) and paint it well and the result will be spectacular!

If it matters to anyone I plan on cutting the sidewalls out and placing the new parts right where the old ones were... Then installing an interior and making the top removable with magnets, when its done it will not match ANY studio scale - on screen - falcon. but it will be awesome :D

I strongly suggest that all but the most feverish do the same and come to terms with the fact that it will be awesome but not perfect. the only way to get perfect will be to build it from scratch. An endeavor I whole heartedly support BTW. :)

With so many versions of the MF out there.......I just want a large, good looking, mostly accurate display piece with a price point below 4 digits. God help us that one was made below 3 digits.

Yes its a toy, but a toy that is blurring the lines between off the shelf and studio scale.

You could also say this is a really freaking awesome MODEL that AMT should have made...instead hasbro made it, but they used a really horrible plastic/rubber poop material to do it with. Seriously tho....just pulling this out of the box...you go...wow...that really looks like the falcon, instead of...awhhh this looks weird like you do with all the old falcon model kits.

I'm almost wondering if a shapeways part might not be a good way to go..so I will have super clean window cuts...instead of the slightly rough plastic edges you get with this rubbery crap they used. One of the reasons I popped for the shapeways cockpit.... Anyhow..when the dust settles I may try making a few random shapeway parts myself (ones no one is making) I will be sure to share that info if it happens :) For now I'm just going to keep slowly whacking away the side walls and making an internal support dealy 1st. ... and of course waiting on my parts to be shipped as well.

Hear, hear...

Remember - its the paint job people will always notice first. And overall shape/porportions. Fine details are later in line...

It's a fool's errand to try to make the BMF an exact studio replica of either the 5-footer or the 32-incher (but I applaud any fool attempting it! :lol), but it makes a good platform for making a Falcon that fits somewhere in between and represents a close to on-screen appearance. I'm altering the sidewalls and hull curvature to give it more of the clamshell look of the 5-footer, but I'm content that it won't be a true replica of the 5-footer. Hopefully, Bandai will fill that void next year.:cheers

and Praise be...

I agree and I agree. God bless anyone who wants to attempt it but it still won't match the 1/1 from ANH and the full 1/1 from ESB so just mod and enjoy.

I am still hoping someone here is going to offer a 5' kit. I keep hearing rumblings but each year passes and nothing. Whisky made a lot of progress on his, then nothing. I follow the 5' thread and nothing.

I will always hope. I just hope it comes out before I am too old to build it.

As far as this thing goes I am very excited. May or may not be able to replace my MR Falcon but regardless this one will be a blast to make and add to my, now very small, archives.

Last night I snapped together Bandai's new TIE X-1 1/72 kit and I gotta say it's spectacular! Terrific detail (better than Fine Molds -- and that's a high bar) and even snapped together the pieces fit with precise tolerance. Seam lines vanish. They even have detail on the inside of the cockpit hatch that will never be seen unless someone does an open cockpit diorama. It's crazy good. If they do a Falcon -- and, really, why wouldn't they -- it should be amazing. I just hope they avoid Fine Mold's mistakes and get the proportions correct. My dream is a 1/72 replica of the 5-footer with swappable lower hull sections to do either the ANH version or the 5-gear TESB version.

I don't think anyone is really looking to turn this into a perfect replica, more just trying to figure what's off where exactly, and if there are some of those things can be tweaked with relatively minimal headache before starting to paint.

I will say after playing with the Falcon, the Hero Series I'm REALLY hoping for is....a Star Destroyer. That makes SO much sense to me for Hasbro to develop, it's not funny- giant, iconic spaceship, no moving parts to worry about, they've never done one, rumors are that they feature in the opening of Episode 7, and as a toy could be molded in a solid colour without even needing stickers. Packaging might be tricky to design, and you might need to design the tower to snap in place for shipping purposes, but other than that it seems like a PERFECT fit for the niche the HS is suppose to fill. Plus there is almost no way it wouldn't provide an ideal platform to detail the heck out of.

My dream also HaJ,.....I spent a bit of time this morning doing the first couple of stages of the Bandai X-Wing and I've NEVER had such a great sence of awe in the detail & sheer brilliance of this kit,.....I cant praise it high enough,....next year Bandai has to bring out a Falcon kit, they'll definitely bring out a 144,...but really they'll need to release a 72,.....AND with the images we've seen of the Ep 7 Falcon, they could bring out a model with options as you said,....& options for the dish

Heres hoping

Would it be possible for someone with a MR Falcon and the new Hasbro Falcon to take some good side by side pics to compare. I would love to see over all size compared, details, etc.??????

Hi Jameth. I'm planning to design the Hasbro turret window too.

I'm waiting my Hasbro. As soon as I receive it, I will take some measurements and I will design it.

I hope this helps! :)

STRING! String, and lots of it is how I will display this!! I'm planning to suspend it along side my Hasbro Legacy TIE and trio of Hasbro X-wings (provided I can solve the droopy-wing problem in the one that's already up there before I attack the two Vintage Collection ones I picked up this year - Reds 2, 3, and 5 in formation when it's all done). That said, yeah, need to solve the bottom turret area somehow.

Oh, and thanks for that pic, it solved my question about the lower boxes actually :) Definetly look lower profile on there than on the 32" Falcon. So it looks like some MORE bits of the 5 footer on this toy then.

Mine's gonna be too heavy for strings by the time Im done with it :)
