New 52 Mr Freeze (New Photos pgs 1 & 6)

Re: New 52 Mr Freeze

This looks like a cool build, can't wait to see what you come up with! I loved the design of Freeze when they introduced him in the Annual :)

Re: New 52 Mr Freeze

So are you going to vacuum form the the dome you are making?

I read that you can do it without a vacuum form, it's trickier but I don't really know how to make a vacuum former & I don't want to spend too much. Do you have any experience or tips?

Cardboard skeleton is fully bondoed over!
(Few hints for first-timers like me- #1. Get the gallon. It's a way better deal. Especially at walmart since it's only $20.)
I'm currently waiting to sand it over.

Also I found an old vacuum that doesn't work and I'm using the hose

Doesnt look like it has much hardener mixed into the bondo...hope it dried. Looking forward to seeing how the oven forming comes along.

Re: New 52 Mr Freeze

It dried good and I'm now in the process of sanding..
My brother unfortunately has the electric sander at the moment so it's going to take a while!

Re: New 52 Mr Freeze

This looks awesome. I am also working on my own Mr. Freeze build currently. I will provide one word of caution. When it comes to heating and forming plexiglass, it releases a lot of pretty nasty chemicals into the air. Use in a well ventilated area as they say. Good luck, and be careful with forming the plexi.

Update:
I went to my local Academy and purchased this outfit. In total it cost me $19! (probably the cheapest thing going into this!) I tried to go as accurate as possible and the main difference is that the arm holes are tighter, whereas in the reference picture, the holes are bigger. I'll fix that later, but it's the least of my worries at the moment.

Here's a WIP rough cardboard skeleton of the tank I am going to make. After I finish the skeleton I will Fiberglass, Bondo, and paint it.

The smoke machine will fit perfectly inside the tank. My only worry is the amount of thickness that the fiberglass will add, which may make the machine not fit.

If fiberglass adds a lot of thickness, how should I go about this? I don't want to remake the skeleton, so what are the alternatives?

I could just use Bondo: glass, which has fiberglass in it, or fiberglass the outside and then Bondo over it.

Do I have any suggestions?

Re: New 52 Mr Freeze

I know this is a very frowned upon triple post, but I'm bored and evidently nobody is very interested (yes pity-comment below please). :lol

anyway here is a completely sanded dome.

When my next paycheck comes this week I will form the plexglass around it. If you look closely there are some small pinholes, but that's fine due to there not being much detail retained after oven-forming.

I'm also considering making raised diamond shapes on the bondo, so that the plexiglass will have a little of the texture as the comic does.

Please leave comments below! And I promise my next update will be more significant. :thumbsup

My advice is like you said, apply the glass to the outside and then smooth it out from there, don't take up your internal space, thicken it up from the outside

Re: New 52 Mr Freeze

Oh I am still interested dude lol, lookin forward to seeing abit more, I like you choice of attire too.... I just done some shoulder armour base for mine out of cardboard but its not really worth postin the pics yet, also sketched how I want my helmet to look as its my own design Im workin too.... keep up the great work and keep the updates coming regardless of replies ;)

Re: New 52 Mr Freeze

The world needs more Mr. Freeze cosplayers. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Re: New 52 Mr Freeze

Okay question regarding fiberglass before I screw something up,

Do you just apply resin or do you include the fiberglass clothe?

Re: New 52 Mr Freeze

as far as I know dude (but I'm no expert) you use the fibreglass clothe with the resin if you don't then you are basically just resin coating it (but that actually worked well for my Captain Britain helmet that I made from a self modified pep file, I used paper, then resin coated it a few times, then filler, sanded, filler, sanded then used a coat of stopper on it and painted it up.... hope that is of some help, BUT after I dropped my helmet and smashed it my dad is repairing it for me and he is using fibreglass to make it a bit sturdier.... that's how I know he used the fibreglass clothe with the resin :)

Re: New 52 Mr Freeze

So far as I know you apply resin, then the fiberglass clothe and saturate the clothe with resin. With just resin I doubt it'd be strong enough to support your fog machine too.
