Nerf Vulcan Repaint Question

I've recently purchased a Nerf Vulcan and am about to start the humbling task of repainting it. I know some members have repainted theirs, so I thought I might be able to get an answer to my question here. I was wondering, for those of you that have repainted your Vulcan, did you take yours apart to paint it? I'm a little afraid of taking this one apart just because of the more mechanical innards this gun has. I was also planning on doing a lot of brush work on this one (drybrushing, washing, etc) so I wondered if it would even be worth taking it apart and risking breaking the gun when I'm going to be doing a lot of work with brushes anyway

I haven't stripped my vulcan down yet, but I'll tell you what, when I did my Longshot I took digital photos of every step while I dissasembled it so I could see the location and orientation of the parts as they are supposed to be packed which proved to help me get the darn thing back together.

Yeah I thought about doing that. I've taken the longshot apart no problem (that's going to be my next repaint) I'm just worried about all the electronic internals and such. It would really suck to take the whole thing apart, paint it, and put it back together only to discover I knocked some vital wire loose

I have painted a few Vulcans. I would stay away from painting the feed tray and belt winder. It sticks with paint on it.
Fun project.

Red "X" parts detach easily. These are pretty beat up, but a simple scheme looks awesome. I was going for pulse rifle colors.

Be sure to use a paint meant for plastic and the surfaces are clean and dry.

I pulled mine apart last week to rip out the air restrictors. Don't be too worried about pulling it apart as all the internals are screwed to one side. Just be careful when initially taking it apart as there is 1 wire attached to both sides.

Sorry to hijack. Did you see a difference w/o the restrictors? Do you have a pic of the internals?

A lot of difference without the air restrictors, the bloody things hurts if it hits at close range!!

One important piece of information. If you want to remove the AR just dremel the thing without pulling it apart. I removed all the screws and took the entire bolt assembly apart. When I got to the air chamber when the AR was, the only way to get to the back was to cut it apart because the entire air chamber was glued together. Took me ages to pull apart and put back together when I could have drilled it straight out of the box for the same effect.

DON"T BOTHER!! Just dremel or drill straight through the front of the air valve

This will go through the plastic valve and the air restrictor. All I did was remove the spring that is behind it and cleaned up with a round file.
