Need to get a work lamp.

Hey all figured I post this here as most people in this section would prolly have more advice for working at a desk. I am looking at getting a lamp for my desk and the room I do all of my work in isn't lit bright enough. I currently have a cheapo lamp that does the job, but it gets in the way and I want something better/bigger. I was wanting something that is a decent size with a larger arm boom on it so I can have it off to the corner of my desk or possibly mount in on the wall behind my TV out of the way. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,
Josh.

The one we have in the living room near our table where we do all sorts of stuff was just an upright floor lamp from Lowe's that has an arm that can be swiveled and extended. I think it was 40.00 back when we got it in the 90s. It does a good job, my dad uses it when he's engraving stuff.

I use a florescent arm lamp with the magnifier.
Have it attached to the side of my desk.

Something like this.

Get a "Dazor" Lamp.......comes in 2 & 3 tube versions. Best Lamp on the market for the jewelry, gemologists, watchmakers, draftsmen and just plain hobbyists trade....you might say they are the industry standard. They aint cheap but you can find older used models on ebay and used jewelers and office equipment supply. Dont try going on the cheap getting a 'look-a-like" lamp...this one will last you a lifetime. I have several in my workshop I've been using for over 30 years and have never had to replace one.......can't even remember last time I replaced even a bulb in them although I'm not saying the bulbs last forever. They also can either be screwed down to your workbench table or clamped on.........they also come in weighted base versions but the screw down or clamped on ones take up less desk space. You won't regret getting one. If you can't find one let me know and I'm sure I can hunt you down one.....assuming you want a used one. I'll also post a pic of one I like with a magnifying lens build in....or just go to google images and type in "Dazor Jewelers lamp"......they come in many many shapes and sizes although the one I mentioned is the industry standard.

One last tip if you buy one used....make sure the electrical cord isn't all cracked or need replacing. Replacing a cord can be a pain since everything is such a tight fit in its base.

Here's where you can purchase one and a picture so you know what to look for in case you want one used:

Theres a great many on ebay right now......just make sure the seller shows you it works and the electrical cord isn't cracking or frayed.
A common used price for these lamps in good shape is usually in the $50 to $75 range. You might pay a little more for one in "like new" condition but of course you might get lucky and find one cheaper......again just make sure you check that it does light and the condition of the cord and also that the lamp tubes all click in place ok......although these lamps are practically bullet proof, ......like anything used.....some can be abused by past owners.

I'm a dental technician, and many labs have these lights. They're awesome. And they are venerable. I've spotted them in old episodes of The Outer Limits from the 60s. Well worth the money, even if you're buying them new.
