Need panels for my walls - prop room question

I am redesigning the decor in my hobby room and I need light weight ¼” thick material with at least one smooth and paintable side to create panels of various sizes to apply to walls. I would prefer something more solid than foam or foam core board. I could use plywood, but it can get heavy and expensive, as can most plastic sheets I’ve found.

I need to cover about 150 to 200 square feet in panels ranging in size from 36” x 48” to 6” x 12”. I will likely be using screws to install them in the walls – one in each corner of each panel.

What would you suggest?

1/4" luan plywood... Cheap, light weight and has a paint grade finish...

I doubt you will find anything substantial cheaper or lighter that offers durability...

don't use MDF, unless I'm way out of my head here, it is very heavy. I'd say you go for the 1/4" luan plywood

Thanks all. Here's a clue...
