I'm building a replica prop chair. I have power that comes through the base...into a shaft and then the chair swivels on top of the shaft. Previously I cut a half circle in the bottom of the chair so it could freely rotate around the wire. This weakens the bottom and I no longer want to do it this way.

I also do not want to use the ball bearing electrical contacts. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What you need is to create a slip ring connection, kind of like the motors with brushes. That way the wire doesn't get tangled around the support shaft.
