Need help with converting a plastic pistol to Indy's Gun from ROTLA

Hey kids.

I snagged a Japanese exclusive Disney Park Indy Gun (plastic, but very very faithful to Indy's S&W.) I've got two questions:

1. There's a blaze orange cap overing the barrel end. How do I remove it without destroying the gun? I tried the blow dryer trick to no avail. Guess Japan's glue is better than Hasbros.

2. I want to paint this up to look as CLOSE to the original prop (which I have tons of reference for). I've found the excellent "how to paint realistic wood" tutorial before (a link would be swell as Ive since lost it), but how do I make the gun look as good as possible? I'll need to paint the cylinder, trigger and hammer first, then assembled it back into the gun so I can putty up the screw holes.

Any advice on types of paint, colors, rattle cans I could use? Distressing with silver paint won't be a problem, but shooting for the most realistic color and look I can get. Appreciate any help!

A picture of it might help us out a bit :)

You're probably going to have to "break" the orange plug off, and might have to repair the gun in some fashion afterwards.

You may also be able to just drill it out, and then paint over it.

You could take a Dremmel with a small cut-off wheel and carefully cut the cap down the side. You don't have to go all the way through, just enough to get a small flat head screwdriver in there and pry it apart.

Just a thought.

And yes, please post a picture of the gun. I didn't know Indy guns were sold in the parks. I might have to pick one up tomorrow.

Some links that might be of help :)

without breaking it, you may have the best results using a sanding wheel on a Dremel and sand the cap off. If you sand down to the original black plastic, you can avoid damaging the actual barrel.

That's what I would say the best choice is.
