Need help identifying kit part

I know that some of you guys are wiz's when it comes to identifying kitbashed parts for scale models used in the movies, so I was wondering if you could help out. I'm trying to identify a part seen on Grey Leader's Y-Wing helmet (it's not present on all Y-Wing helmets), and it looks to me like it's from a scale model.

It's the part in the oblong shaped indentation on the cheek that I'm after (though if you can identify the fan-like ear piece or the bit that sticks out of the bottom of the helmet, that would be appreciate too). This is the best picture I can find:

Thoughts? :)

I think it was IDed as from a large scale motorcycle model, the part being a radiator half. Possibly the same model that contributed a part for the Vibro-Axe (the ID of which, naturally, I cannot recall).

It does look like a motorcycle radiator - similar to the part on the Biker Scout snout.

Also, never knew there were C3P0 waist screws on the Y-Wing helmet.

MonCal knows a lot about kit pieces, he´s a very nice guy too.
You could try asking him.
It does look a bit like the piece on the Biker´s Helmet snout.
Are those the same pieces on General Nadine´s collar?

I think I know what that piece hanging out the bottom of the helmet is. Hold on while I confirm.

Looks like a multiple of Vibro-Ax parts there. That C3P0 screw is also on the Vibro-Ax.

Looks like its the plumbing fitting that's on the top of the Vibro-Ax:

Looks like the clamp is also there but its clamped around the top and is attached to something hanging out the bottom of the helmet.

Did the pilot's breathing hose attach here?

Looks to me like an old style multi-pin composite video plug. Older ones had a ring that would screw onto the female end on the back of the VTR.

The part hanging out the bottom of the helmet isn't a model part or a plumbing fitting. It's a "cannon plug" electrical connector.
It would be nearly impossible to match exactly, as they come in a bazillion different sizes and configurations.
They're used all over the place in the aircraft we work on.

Thanks for all the help. :D I've checked SS's kit scans of motorbikes, but I can't see anything there that looks even close unfortunately. It will be out there somewhere......

Yep that grill-like piece is from the Tamiya - Yamaha Midnight Special.
The same piece (or the other half) is on the Biker Scout snout and there's another piece from the kit on the Vibro Axe.

I agree that's a cannon plug coming out the bottom of the helmet. There's another cannon plug on the Vibro Axe too (different type).

The sticker on the front of that helmet says "Radio Free Bolinas".

Howlrunner,
I have the midnight special kit. PM me your addy and I'll lend you the part/parts for molding. Are you doing this helmut? If so, how much do you think the kits or build ups will go for.

Thanks for the help. :D Interesting observation on the sticker. Have you seen it in person? Do you have a picture of the whole, unweathered sticker?

Thanks for the offer, I greatly appreciate it. Unfortunately I've never molded anything before so I wouldn't really know what I was doing. Do you have a photo of the part? I'm not doing the helmet, no - I sorely wish I was a better sculpter. I've got the kit coming from RA and want to try to get it as close to movie-accurate as I can, hence the add on parts and the sticker info.

I'll shoot you some pictures. I'll see if a frined of mine can run a quick mold of the part and pop out a few pieces for ya. Stay in touch with PM's.

Howlrunner just said he's updating a Richie's Armor helmet.
You can get one here:

Howlrunner -
You could ask MonCal about the Midnight special part. He has the kit and has already cast parts for the Biker scout. This is the other half of the biker scout snout piece.
Yes, I've seen the helmet in person. It was on display at SW Celebration 2. That's where all the pics of it are from. I have one front view of it. PM me your email and I'll send it to you.

No pics of a clean sticker. It was for some sort of radio campaign in Bolinas, California. One of the model makers must have gotten the sticker and added it. The only reference I've found for the campaign was here:
http://www.coastalpost.com/97/4/25.htm
No logo shown just a small reference to the old campaign.

Thanks for the info. :D

I actually just wrote to KWMR (Bolinas' only operational radio station) to ask for a bit more info. According to them, Radio Free Bolinas was a pirate radio station (now defunct) that was located on the Bolinas Mesa - in the offices of the Public Utility District. They'd never heard of any stickers ever being made though.

OK, while we're on it then (and I'm actually making progress and discovering things. :D ), anyone any idea what the extra add ons in this view are? The one just below the ear area:

Also, the one on the left side (as you look at it) of the forehead (though that one may be completely made from scratch).

Given the extra information on the Bolinas sticker, I made a replica in Photoshop which I'll get resized, printed as a decal and weathered (looks better if you hihglight it - the forum background colour doesn't work well with the white):

Did the lettering for the forehead and cheeks as well. Wish the helmet would hurry up and get here. :lol

Nice work on the sticker there...
Nice helmet pics , are you also gonna Photoshop the "Bat" that's on the other Y-helmet?

I wasn't planning on doing the "bat" as I'm only going to be doing one helmet up as Grey Leader's helmet. That said, it would be a fun project so I might give it a go. :D

MonCal sent me an image of some of the pieces from the Midnight Special (thanks.), but I have to say, I don't really see the resemblance to any of these pieces..... What do you think? Looks to me like the Midnight Special may not be the right kit.
