Need help at making a helmet

hi im new around here and im new at making masks and stuff like that....
so i want to ask,how am i getting started? i was thinking of making a sculptor of the mask i want,but the problem is that i dont know what to cover the sculptor with...
i want to make a latex face and a helmet over it.
