I rewired my GB wand. I have 3 white LEDs and 1 red. I wired it just like the resistor calc said with 2 100 ohm 1/4 watt resistors powered by a 9 volt.

The trouble is that the battery is getting very hot, I mean VERY hot. I didn't even have it on but the battery was almost too hot to touch. Not only am i worried about the gun melting but I don't want the battery to blow up.

before I rewired it, I had a 9 volt hooked up to 3 LEDs without any problems. What am I doing wrong?

Do you have the switch making/breaking one wire or both positive and negative? If it's the latter, I'd say you're shorting the battery with the switch (you said it gets hot even when it's not on,which can't happen if the wire breaks the circuit). Use the switch to make/break only the positive wire, leaving the negative end connected to the battery.

Re-read what you posted about the number and color of LEDs being used, and am surprised the LEDs are even lighting. white LEDs usually drop 3V each, so adding the red and the resistors ... again, I'm surprised they're getting enough juice to light. But definitely check the switch wiring.

I left the battery hooked up and it didn't heat back up. I also haven't touched it in a week and the battery's dead.
Lets see if I can explain how this is wired. The positive wire coming off the battery splits into two, Each one leading to two leds then a resistor. They then meet back up to the one negative wire going to the battery. There is also a switch in there but I can't remember where thats at exactly. I have to open it back up, that could be the problem.

Too late now, but it sounds like it might have been a short. I accidentally shorted a small trap circuit I built and didn't figure it out for a few weeks.

Glad to hear you fixed it though.
