Mystique

The system used was the plat gel 10 from polytek with the Smiths Theatrical Deadener added to soften the product and turn it in to a gel.

www.theeffectslab.com is a good place to go for info on how to work with these materials.

I also do a sewries of DVD's that cover working with plat gel 10 silicone gel appliances. These are available from

www.mfxreplicas.com and also http://www.bitymoldsupply.com/ in the US
who also supply plat gel 10

The way these appliances where produced was by making patterns like you would for a costume. These patterns were laid out on boards and the scales sculpted as a flat pattern. Moulds were then made of these flat patterns and then the appliances cast from these flat open backed moulds. Once the appliance was adhered to the skin it would re-confrom to the body shape.

Latex is less than ideal for this job as it is too stiff and inflexible and tends to come away form the skin easily as the subject moves around. Embarrassing for Mystique if she starts shedding her scales only 5 minutes after their being glued on.

Cheers

Thanks for that. I did recall reading/hearing that the appliances were silicon but couldn't recall where and I must have been using the wrong search string as I couldn't find confirmation online.
I wondered if you could flat pattern the scales. Hmmm.

Here's a pic from Dragon-Con 2006...

Ooh now that gives me an idea... her footwear that is;) I think there was a very brief fad in hollywood for being apparently barefoot but wearing stick on things on the feet. I now have an idea for my own.

Oh and I have seen another Mystique costume in the process of morphing. She may have been at another D*C.

That young lady HAS GOT to be comfortable with her body to walk around in..oh..nothing:eek It's certainly worth a double take, but man that takes guts.

I'm....

Wow.

Flabbergasted. I can't decide if it's awesome or just sad.

Nope, I've decided. Ovarian fortitude aside, that's just sad.

Machina Artum, here's hoping your effort goes better.

I dont think we are going to be quite that exposed, but it will look good nonetheless.
