Ok im currently working on gauntlets for my predator , i had no idea where to start so i decided to just have a go. I never found any threads for making gaunlets so i figured i would take the privilege of helping out!. Im gonna try making gauntlets this way and with foamboard ( sintra ) , I will explain the good points and bad points about both.
I will update this thread as I continue.

This is my first tutorial and i would like to contribute more to this site so please be nice!

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED :

1. 2 pringles cans.

2. Quite a bit of sintra B)

3. Selotape.

4. Super glue or some type of strong glue.

5. A stanley knife.

6. A pair of scissors

7. A ruler or something to measure with.

8. The passion of creation!!.

9. And maybe a few bits i forgot but they won't be important.

THE CREATION!!

1. First of all get a movie and some pringles ( the ones in the big box) , watch the movie and whilst you are eat the pringles but keep the box.
Take the lid and bottom off it and cut a slice down one of the sides straight through , so you have something like this:

2. Next go to a local hobby store or somewhere they sell something to do with art and stuff and buy a like pencil , pen rubber holder.
Its also for paper clips and stuff , you will know what i mean by this pic.

3. To get the idea of what this is gonna look like the way I wanted it i simply selotaped them together to see if it looked any good , I attached the pringles from the edge of each side to the bottom of the pencil case thingie , then cut the pringles can down to size so both the pringles can and the pencil case thing are the same size and the pringles can isn't hanging over the side!.
When selotaping i made sure i never covered the clip to open and close the pencil case thing.

well guys I've nearly finished the gauntlets , was ill for 2 days then did this in 2 days so its all evened out.
Now i done alot at my friends so i can't really show steps of the parts but i will take pics of each part explaining what i did.
So here ya go. For the next steps you will need sintra and super glue or some type of glue , hot glue what ever you have that is strong enough.
Also a decent Stanley knife , pair of scissors , and a boil or powerful heat gun to bend the sintra.

4. Now get your sintra and the pencil holder thingie and start to cover all the places on it by cutting out pieces of sintra and gluing them down. Make sure you leave space for the hinge of the lid so it can open and close as well as the handle to open it. It doesn't matter if there is still a few pieces left out as it to me looks like the cloaking device colour of the preds suit.
Once you have covered it start to add detail around the side and obviously on top , leave the inside for now (in my opinion ).

In the pics it is all glued together but yours shouldn't be now , its just that i couldn't take pics of the steps whilst i was making it.
My detail is not yet done and i didn't follow any specific design from any of the movies. You can add whatever detail you want though.

5. Once your detail is added hold down the pringles can which should now be off as the taped together part was just to see how it looked.
Hold down the pringles can and trace around it on the sintra then cut the sintra out and heat it on the boil (or heat gun ).
Tape the pringles can back on to the pencil thingie how it was but this time bend the sintra around the pringles can and follow the same design , Do not glue it yet!!. Once you have the rounded shape of the pringles can on the sintra run it under cold water and this should make it hold in place , IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE PREFECT. Once this is done cut the rounded piece of sintra you just made in half , yes in half!. Then get another pringles can (sorry!) and cut it down the middle and to size to the pencil holder thing. Make the same circular shape with the pringles can which it originally was only this time make it perfect so your hand can fit perfectly and be nice and snug at the same time. Now tape this to secure it so you have the shape of an original pringles can accept its perfect for your arm. Also remember you will be wearing a skin under this so leave a little more space than needed.
Once done stick this to the bottom of the pencil thingie in the middle , simply with tape. Now that this is done take the two sintra peices that you cut in half , they should both be in semi rounded shapes. Stick them both to both sides of the pencil thing and lead them down to the pringles can and stick them there too making it all snuk and secure. Also to make your arm fit in more snug you can add a piece of foam inside the pringles can.
Also if need cut two pieces out on either side of both pieces of sintra to let the hinges of the pencil holder move securely . Heres some pics.

6. Now add more detail around the edges until you are happy with it. The tape that is on now willl be staying there but will be hid. We are keeping this to keep it more secure. The next steps will be covering the tape up , sanding the egdes and adding a few more bits. And then obviously painting it.
I am working on it now so it shouldn't be long.

Looking good so far B)

can't wait to get started on mine.
My plan involves 1,5liter soda bottles, styrofoam and metal plates ;)

This is great. we have like this huge box of like 5 pringles cases... though i don't know when the chips are gonna get eaten.. they tasted kinda stale today B)

Nice job...Yup my gaunlets are from pringles boxes too they work very good...

I love pringles!!!! :)

thanks for all the comments guys , I figured this thread would maybe help some of the noobs to the forum . I'm not really on a tight budget at the moment but I know you can make great gauntlets like this if you put your mind to it. Hopefully my sintra will arrive today. Its actually 6 am and im waiting up for the post because if i miss the package i really can't be bothered walking all the way to pick it up!.
I will be cutting a piece to size and covering the top piece that opens. Then i will take the tape off and flatten out the pringles case and draw a line right around it. Then with the base line cut that out and and then attatch it to the pencil case thing again.
Although I may paint them first before putting them back together as it might be quite tricky to get certain bits , so if theres any bits showing I wil just add the detail once there on. Anyway i will post up more pics sson.
I have made another gauntlet base from a flat piece of card with bended sides which is attached to a pringles box. I thenk covered it in duct tape to hold it all together , then papermache. Next like the other one I will simply apply sintra to it all.
I also plan to use the sintra for all the bits of detail and im looking for red flashing leds for the open and close gauntlet run by a bettery pack. Any help on this would be great.
Update soon though guys and i would appreciate any more feedback. Thanks :)

Great Ideas and this really, REALLY helped me Thanks a bunch and I cant wait to see next steps w. pics

nice job there buddy...Are you putting led light circuit boards inside your gaunlets like Obraxis's gaunlets?
keep us updated on your build..

mumbaki o_O

Thank you very much. very helpful for me cause this costume I'm working on is my first full prdator suit.

Btw what's sintra?

lol so many people ask that question , its a substance that you heat and you can bend and stick it to stuff , it can then be painted. Look it up on the forums , i will be posting up the next steps soon as well.

I wrote up a nice article and link for this stuff in the material thread, You can find the stuff at your local plastic dealer. Look in the yellow pages on-line for Plastic Distributes and do a google search for it, you'll come up with a thousand hits for the stuff
