I decided to make my own 3D chess set from Next Generation. I had the body CNC’d out of aluminum. The tall body out of 1/4” and the base out of 3/8”. I did a smooth 0000 steel wool finish on the body and brushed on the base. I bolted them together for strength.
The chess boards are 1/4” acrylic. I masked them off and painted every other square silver. The risers are 1/2”x4” solid square acrylic. I needed the boards to mount solid and didn’t want to screw them on and have either screws or screw heads showing. So I laser cut the delta shield with a slit, the width of the aluminum so it would act as a “foot” for the board to mount on.
The chess pieces were 3d printed in silver silk pla to mimic turned aluminum. I ended up machining them from aluminum, shown in close up pics.
Anyway, just thought I’d share.
