My take on Oujala's $20 Tron Identity Disk - Updated

After reading Oujala's thread about making a Original Tron Identity Disk, I decided to steal his idea for my own. So everyone can just forget he did this first and think that I came up with this on my own.....

Anyway, this is my take on his idea. I wanted a hybrid of the disks and this is how the semi completed prop looks now. I was trying for a semi-opaque look, but I am fixing to "darken" the white areas. There is a chrome covered piece of foam board in the frisbee to help the 2 little LEDs that light it.

This is it unlit in standard light

Looks great!

How did you mask your circles?

Nick

Re: My take on Oujala's $20 Tron Identity Disk

Had a sign store make them out of "masking". It is a special vinyl that is easily removed.

Masking vinyl. Good to know such a beast is out there!

Thanks

Re: My take on Oujala's $20 Tron Identity Disk

I gotta say that looks fantastic. Did you just take a frisbee to a sign shop and ask them to make rings or what? And did you wire the led's yourself or use found items?
I want to do make of these pretty bad.

Re: My take on Oujala's $20 Tron Identity Disk

Looks good! I am thinking of doing the same thing but I found a little device that you can stick onto a frisbee with 4 LED's and I am hoping this will give it a better "glow" If and when I figure it out I will post some pics.

P.S. here is a link for that item:

AeroPOD™ Light-Up UNIVERSAL FLYING DISC POD

Xxblackbird - The frisbee has the LEDs already installed. I made a template of what I wanted and took the template to the sign store.

Draphin - Thanks for the link. I just ordered one of them to see how it does.

Wow, great work. Love it!

Re: My take on Oujala's $20 Tron Identity Disk

What kind of paint did you use, Krylon Fusion, plain acrylic?

Re: My take on Oujala's $20 Tron Identity Disk

can't someone make a video when they are throwing it at night? I really wanna see it move.

Re: My take on Oujala's $20 Tron Identity Disk

That looks great! Is your base frisbee the same Wham-o Twilight Blast model as in Oujala's original thread?

Re: My take on Oujala's $20 Tron Identity Disk

Ok, If you are going to do this go ahead and invest in the AeroPOD™ Light-Up UNIVERSAL FLYING DISC POD. It is night and day different than the stock 2 led. I used hot glue to attach it as I was not going to attach it with the screws it comes with.

Here are the pics to show the difference.

In the light:

In the dark:

Now if someone made a 8 led version of the Aeropod, you could blind someone with it.

Awesome. I think I'm going to have to work on one of these. Can you put up an image of the bottom with the chrome foam board? Or did you remove it when you added the AeroPOD?
