My Studio Scale Star Destroyer Build

Yep, 27 years ago, right about the time of ESB, I had an itch to build a Star Destroyer. There was no internet back then, and all I could affor was poster board, but I built a star destroyer. It fell apart, and got thrown away, but if I had just held onto it for 20 years, I would have done a really cool .mpg of the opening sequence.

Back then, the only recording device was polaroid, and this is a picture of those pictures. These polaroids are the only evidence of of this model, which was never finished, but did have christmas lights inside.

That was a very nice build for poster board. It's a shame it was trashed. I remember building a Y-Wing and a Tie Fighter out of card board and other parts back around 1979. Sadly I trashed them and the photos I took of them as well.

Yes, it is hard to remember if I had a life before digital photography. Now days I can take 100's of photos and trash 99 of them. I have a picture history of everything from places I went, to food I ate since 2002.

I only have a few Poloroids to remember my childhoold projects.

I did ATAT's the same way..Only had one and made 4-5 others out of cardboard...need to see if there are pictures anywhere

I remember Starlog magazine (and their various book publications with photos) being just about the only reference available back in those way olden days. As proto bootleggers, my pals and I used to sneak super 8 cameras and film SLR cameras into the theater to discretely grab footage and snap stills of effects and props. Of course the images were terrible, but there just wasn't anything else... until we had VCRs.
I built prop replicas when I was a kid from movies like Logan's Run, and it was all from memory. My Logan's Run gun was a chunk of mailing tube with a wooden grip, all spray painted black. It's good that you have these Polaroids of your model - proof that it actually existed, and that it looked really good, too.

I will join the club...built a scaled DEATH STAR HANGAR with the falcon Model and scaled figures with landing lights, walls etc. all gone too. one day do a re-build.

That looks great, clonesix. :thumbsup

OK, I'll play. I never got anywhere with my astromech build (cardboard box body, molded shipping styrofoam head, loaf pan feet) but my Kenner figures spent a lot of time on the multilevel Death Star "set" I made out of a wrought iron plant stand. And in a box in the closet is Super 8 footage of, among other things, a Viper assaulting a styrofoam space colony.

Ah, memories...
