My Spartan Helmet.....its finished!!!

Looks good amigo.

The only criticism I could add would be that the angle on the cheek guards seems a little shallow.
Here's a great side view I marked up.

Hey, it looks like mine. :eek
I have no pics yet, but it's a little scary... We are doing the same thing.
Great start BTW :)

Hey thanks Chris.

I am still playing around with the mandibles of the helmet.......and from what I can conclude in the official 300 website and after repeatedly watching the dvd, they somewhat used varying degrees in the mandibles wherein some were convex and some were concave. Going to the making of 300 video journals and clicking on #4 Wardrobe, it shows the varying degrees quite well and I plan to integrate a happy medium in between if I can.

Very interesting technique to see in progress. Thanks for the WIP.

In "MLC_Spartahelm.10", Is this the Bondo stage of the dome or did you fill it in with another process?

any chance of measurements or diagrams of the cardboard?
[/b]

The circumference of the helmet is about 25-3/4" measured from the eyebrows going back.
Height of the helmet is approx 11-1/4" from the pointed top to the bottom of the pointed mandible
Crest height is 1-3/4" at the front.

Hope that helps.

How hard or flexable is it? Do you have problems with cracking?

Sir, are your questions pertaining to the mock-up or the product in fiberglass?

Cardboard as we all know flexes, but once you get the shape as you want, you can add bondo to cover any creases and maybe fiberglass the interior so the cardboard will retain its shape. You then can give it a shot of paint to see any flaws, etc.
Adding flanges before molding will also stiffen your mock-up so you can accurately mold your mock-up.

Yes, there could be a chance of cracking.......but mock-ups are not meant to last very long. Once you're done, you should have it molded. All our mock-ups gets busted up after they are molded. But then, you already have the mold.

As for fiberglass products - they are indeed flexible. You can use flexible resin when you lay up fiberglass to add more flex. Naturally, a thinner lay-up of fiberglass would yield more flexible compared to a thicker lay-up which would be stiff.
You can flex fiberglass to a degree and it always goes back to its original form.

Thank you for the answers, you covered my questions very well even when I didn't know how to phrase them very well.

Thank you
