My Rocketeer Project *Updated 3/30/09* REPLICA BUCKLE

Re: My Rocketeer Project Updated 8/19

Nice work! I'd be interested in getting in on the run as well. Thanks for sharing your work and great progress!

Re: My Rocketeer Project Updated 8/19

Thanks guys! I ordered another pair of the Morgan gloves and will work out the price on doing these. It'll be easier if you purchase both the black glove and Morgan glove to make sure they fit you, then send me the Morgan gloves to alter. I'm also looking into offering the different versions of the Gauntlets. The next pair will also be much lighter brown. I'm looking into changing the pattern a bit more too.

Re: My Rocketeer Project Updated 8/19

Sounds good, Jeff!

Personally, I'm going to look for another glove for the gauntlet. I hate to spend $40 on a pair of gloves just to cut them up.

Quick question... could the metal control bracket be rounded-off instead of squared-off? I think it would fit around your hand better and be more comfortable...

Re: My Rocketeer Project Updated 8/19

Which part? The bottom is rounded off, and the top near the button is under leather and sits on top of you hand between your thumb and index finger. You really don't feel it at all. I do plan on rounding the edge towards the fingers, to be more accurate.

As for the price of the glove, it's actually a deal for the quality. And extremely close to the real ones, if not the same.

Re: My Rocketeer Project Updated 8/19

Ok, I basically have one of them finished. I just need to set the grommet, repaint the metal mount a flat black, clean up a bit of the excess thread ends and that's about it!

The Metal Button Mount is pop riveted to the gauntlet. I used washers on the inside to make a nice solid area for the rivet, so it wouldn't pop through the leather.

With the Flight Glove on, I can't feel the backs of the rivets at all.

The Brass Leather Rivets are installed the usual way

I'm almost finished with the right hand gauntlet too... However...

These have basically become my prototypes! And I'm heading back to the drawing board again! With some NEW info and a couple more Ref. photos from a fellow Finhead that explained a bunch of questions I had. I was wrong about the gauntlets I was using as Ref., these are not the Hero Gauntlets that are used in the film. In fact, I couldn't find these in any scene. Though I do have my ideas of what they were used for.

Anyways... the next gauntlets will be a TON better and more accurate! I'll be messing with my pattern the next couple of days and hopefully can zero in on closer versions!

Oh! I also received the Radiator, Grills, and Engine Fin detail parts today!!! So more work will be shown of the pack soon!

Clear Skys fellow Finheads!!!

Re: My Rocketeer Project Updated 8/20

Ok guys UPDATE time!

With the WONDERFUL help of a fellow Finhead that owns the screen used Gauntlets that I've been attempting to replicate, I'm heading back to the drawing board to change a couple details. It looks like I got pretty darn close to them from the couple of pictures I was going from. With the new information in hand I've already started on a new pair!

And from what I gather and talking with the owner of these gauntlets, I believe these are in fact the stunt gauntlets for the Fire Shooting, and the FX Rocket Packs. Not the same ones Cliff wears 99% of the time. The main difference is there is no visual metal mount for the control button, the leather flaps that hold the buttons are different, and there are 2 brass rivets next to the grommet that hold the leather wrist strap on.

I went through the entire DVD, freezing it and I could only spot the Gauntlets with the 2 brass rivets next to the grommet, or the brass button from the wrist strap.

So, I'm thinking about offering both styles, and a mixed style (FX gauntlets with the leather strap).

My question is, what do you guys think is a fair asking price for these? As I mentioned before, I'd prefer you purchase both gloves to make sure they fit, then send me the Morgans to work modify. The Morgans are ~$48.00 shipped. So would $200 be over the top for a complete pair of Gauntlets? ~$50 for the Morgan Gloves and $150 for me to modify and finish them. The price might vary if you want the FX metal mount version, but not by much.

Let me know what you guys think!

Re: My Rocketeer Project Updated 8/20

Forget what the gloves cost; especially since we're meant to purchase them ourselves they shouldn't be your concern! Someone's already mentioned their hunt for a less expensive alternative. Just consider what your time and skills are worth... I'd gladly pay you $150 bucks to turn a couple pairs of regular gloves into accurate Rocketeer gauntlets!

Re: My Rocketeer Project Updated 8/20

I'm working on a second pair right now that will be for my own costume, I'm going with a mix of the FX and Hero styles. So I'm gonna see just how long it takes me to do them. I'm also thinking of making the standard hero style, if people want those. We'll see!

Re: My Rocketeer Project Updated 8/20

Ok, the first Gauntlets are finished! The pictures came out a bit dark, but they aren't THAT dark brown

I also noticed that the Morgan gloves differ with the right and left glove. The right hand glove has a much bigger padded area, so the bottom area stitching is thrown off a bit. My second pair is the same, guess since most people are right handed they make a bigger pad on that side...hmmm...

I started working on a second pair, a lighter brown color with some weathering to it. I thinking of making a third pair that will go even lighter brown... :rolleyes

I also located the correct plug they used for the FX Packs! For my costume I'm not running any electronics to the pack so I don't plan on using them, but Jason might want them for his displayed pack:cool

I'll take some more pictures tonight with them next to the jacket.
