My Ocarina of Time Replicas <Shield Finished>

Re: All wood Master Sword (updated: 1/29)

Looking really good, should look great when its finished I look forward to it

Re: All wood Master Sword (updated: 1/29)

Great work!

I loved Ocarina of Time, it was the last video game I remember being really into - I had time for video games back in those days!

Re: All wood Master Sword (updated: 1/29)

Thanks guys:
Primer's been showing a lot of flaws: So I'm marking them to go back in and re-profile.

In the meantime, working on another important element: (1 side done)

I swear, these files are the best thing ever. The first time I tried making the master sword the triforce looked TERRIBLE

Re: All wood Master Sword (updated: 1/29)

Looks awesome. Zelda is one of the greatest games ever, Ocarina of Time was the coolest thing when I was young. Heck, I still bring it out on occasion to play through. Great work.

Re: All wood Master Sword (updated: 1/29)

Being a Zelda fan myself, I have to say that is amazing. (Now hopefully they'll make a Zelda game as dark as Twilight Princess.) lol.

Re: All wood Master Sword (updated: 1/29)

Very nice work, I'll have to keep up with this thread. Oh, and thanks for sharing the jeweler file tip!

Re: All wood Master Sword (updated: 1/29)

Thanks!
Dude, I'd love to see what you would crank out...

Here's tonight's meager progress. School has been kicking my butt this week.

Refinements:

Basically I just filled in the half-globe's trim and re-filled the pommel (First take on it was wayyyyyyy asymmetrical, so I'm going to have another go)
Good-night!

Re: All wood Master Sword (updated: 1/29)

+ a bit of sanding, + a bit of primer...

It's looking pretty close :)

Re: Master Sword Replica (Ocarina of Time)<updated: 2/2>

I don't think I've really shown this yet....
This is the first layer of fiberglass-over-cardboard that is the sheath.
Tonight I hollowed out the cardboard.
I'll put another layer of fiberglass down to make it sturdy before adding body filler. For the raised bits, I was planning on using styrene strips.

Sometime soon: I'll put down a strip of neodymium magnets along the top side... that way once I complete the shield with it's own set of magnets, the shield should 'clip' onto the back of the sheath, ala ACCURATE! The whole setup shouldn't weigh over 10 lbs. :)

(my last SHIELD was almost 13 lbs alone!)

Re: Master Sword Replica (Ocarina of Time)<updated: 2/2>

No picture update yet: I've been quite busy with school.
The Neodymium magnets finally came in the mail. Those suckers are STRONG!

Re: Master Sword Replica (Ocarina of Time)<updated: 2/2>

That's a nice sword. Ocarina of time was one of the best games on the N64. Can't wait to see the shield.

Re: Master Sword Replica (Ocarina of Time)<updated: 2/2>

I guess it's time for an update!

Finished re-sculpting/carving the pommel on the master sword,
Re-sculpted/carved the sword-tip as well.

-I still have to get both sides symmetrical and add the pyramid gem at the crossguard.

Started the "hard labor" on the shield
Recontoured the shield surface and constructing the wooden base.
(The back surface is countersunk and reinforced with "Great Stuff" expanding foam)

Once I am finished smoothing the surface, I will sculpt the shield rim and bring it around the back to create a seamless look.

The costume itself is pretty much ready to go: I just styled and colored a new synthetic wig, and created some new Ocarina of Time style ears.

Styrene details.
The back panel turned out well... It's pretty exciting when an idea works :)

Still filling in pots and holes before high-grit sanding...

Re: My Ocarina of Time Replicas <updated: 3/25>

*Bumpdate*
I feel like this build is taking forever:....
Definitely didn't make the deadline to get to MegaCon!
Sheath progress anyway>>
I added a second (much cleaner) layer of fiberglass and filled with bondo:

Here is the mounting system for the bandoleer:
Pretty simple, chicago screws for easy removal.

Unfortunately the shield was about 6.5 lbs now... So my idea for using magnets to clip it on to the sheath won't work.
I was considering the option of either vac-forming the shield face, or molding and slush-casting the shield to reduce weight, in which case it would likely work. I've never done that before though... and I'm not entirely sure where I would find the space/resources for it. But I digress...

Sanded smooth, the sheath's raised details are Sintra, I have to go get some more tomorrow. to finish it off.

I got some 'finishing nails' to put in the rim of the shield, and it will be ready for the first painting session tomorrow. (hopefully)

And here is the set so far:

Re: My Ocarina of Time Replicas <updated: 3/25>

this is looking wonderful, I'm really impressed with your eye for detail and your willingness to get things just right.

I can't wait to see it finished!

Re: My Ocarina of Time Replicas <updated: 3/25>

The Songbird Ocarinas are sweet. I have the older less-accurate 12 Hole that I love to play.

You might consider making a neat little case for it . Here's what I did with a little patience and some memory foam. Not the most accurate but way better than a pouch for when I'm not carrying it around.
