My new Star Trek Cage Phaser (PICS)

I picked this up from SD Studios a few weeks ago and just finished it up. I decided to leave the body "as-is" since it was cast off of the real prop. Normally, I'd fill everything and make it as perfect as I can. But if I did want to revamp it, I'd want to redo the handle as well (and I feel that would lose the look of it). I opted to leave the brass "as-is" instead of cleaning it up since I was leaving the body "imperfect". ANYWAY, I also decided not to do the rear sight at this time, but might at a later date.

The kit is SUPERB! One of the nicest kits, if not THE nicest I've ever gotten. The resin body was excellent, and didn't need any work other than drilling out the hole for the trigger and cutting off a portion for the working barrel. The machining on the barrel is very nice, rotating barrel, extending barrel with a sleeve insert to keep from scratching the brass, machined acrylic pieces, etc.

I wanted to use a laser pointer inside too and wire it to the trigger. So I tore apart a laser pointer pen, and wired up a new battery. It is lined up so it will shine through each of the emitter tips when you pull the trigger.

^ Superb build! :thumbsup I also like how you got the aluminum "plug" perfectly flush with the resin body. There's a bit of gap on mine that I should probably go and fill in with putty, but I'm fast approaching the point where any more tweaking will probably just mess the piece up. :lol

The RPF is slowly building a Pike-era armory! :)

EDIT: Got home today and decided to fill the gap. I made a shim made from a thin slice of dense cardboard, cut to size and with the edge blackened with a Sharpie. It fills the gap perfectly and gives a bit of extra stability to the junction of the resin body and aluminum "plug." I just can't stop toying with this thing! :lol

I know what you mean, it's a great prop! I love the weight and mechanism of the barrel.

^ Yep. Nice solid feel.

I'd recommend putting a drop of thread locker on the Allen set screw that holds the rear knurled aluminum ring in place. That'll keep the screw from backing out due to excessive play-time. :lol
