My new GL Ring by Megatron

Curtis did an absolutely phenomenal job on these, and I wanted to show it off. Of all the rings I own/owned, this is by far the best, and I wanted to give Megatron props for his incredible artistry and craftsmanship. My photog skills kind of suck, but I think that the ring sort of shows itself off here. Remember, this one is anodized aluminum, so the green won't come off, and I think he nailed the design. This is the ring I've been dreaming about since I first saw GL on Super Friends! Check it out:

It is incredibly nice. I'm getting into "Jack T. Chance" territory with my comments (LOL, Jack, I'm just kidding), but these really are impressive.

sweet! i think that may be the best GL ring that i've seen so far. especially being made out of iodized aluminum. beautiful!!!

Mine's sitting at home, waiting for me to free it from its boxy prison, but I'm stuck at work 'til 9! :(

:lol
i still havent figured out how much these cost.
For this run they were about $80, If I Remember Correctly, but due to not one but 2 foul ups by the anodizer, the costs on this run ran WAY over and any future runs WILL be more expensive as a result.
It was a very limited run from back in November. You might PM Megatron, but I don't think he's making anymore due to the difficulties on this one.
He hasn't said he won't do more, just that the next run is on hold while he gets caught up on other projects that were delayed by all the headaches from the anodizer. :unsure

I didn't get mine today (shucks) but yours looks out of this world....I really mean from Oa. Curtis knocked this run out of the park. Mine should be here tomorrow. :love

So, I opened mine up as soon as I got home last night. PERFECT FIT! :cool:thumbsup

While inspecting it, I noticed a few things:
  1. On one side of the ring, the finish is pretty much flawless, but on the other side of the band, there's a large area that's a noticeably lighter shade of green, with a few streaks of the darker green on it.
  2. On the "underside" of the band (the part that faces in, same direction as your palm) there's 2 "dings" where the green color came off and you can see the bare aluminum.
  3. On the face of the ring, where the symbol is, there seems to be a rougher texture on most, but not all, of the symbol, which makes the finish look a little duller, less shiny than the rest of the ring.
Now, I need to make this VERY clear: I do NOT blame Curtis for any of these things. Given his poor performance on the 2 prior attempts which both had to be redone, I blame the anodizer here. He really needs to work on improving the quality of his work, and his quality control needs to be improved, too.

And lastly, it needs to be said that I can live with these small "blemishes", as they give the ring character, and make it look as though it's actually been USED and isn't some brand new ring that just rolled off the production line on Oa... which is appropriate, since Hal's ring was handed down to him from Abin Sur! :cool

Expect pictures sometime next week. I'll be very busy over the next 4 days, spending some quality time with the love of my life.

Obviously I got mine today. I can't possibly say how much I love it. There are some imperfections but as Jack said, it gives the ring character. It's like no 2 rings are identical. The thing is amazing and it is sooo light, GAH, I just love it. :love

I love it so much i'm going to get another one to put away when the next run comes along. Way to go Curtis, you are an artist. I can't thank you enough.

Gee... those are beautiful. A few questions:

What material are they made from?

And how were they painted?

I'm a newbie from another country and my first project (soon I hope) will be the GL rings, starting with Abin Sur/Hal Jordan's and continuing with Alan Scott's Starheart (this one is going to be THE CHALLENGE in my humble opinion), Kyle Rayner's ring, Sinestro's Qwardian Ring and in the future one of each other Spectrum rings (including a White Lantern Ring hopefully).

I intend to cast them, but I'm not sure about the metal. Don't want them to be resin, want to sculp them on wax and cast them (because I know some fella that could cast them for me. Painting them... that's another problem to solve... :unsure).

As is discussed in the original topic over in The Junkyard, these are made of aluminum that's been ANODIZED, much like a Mag-Lite flashlight. They are NOT painted. The finish is much more durable than any painted finish, although it is NOT indestructible.

For more info, check out the For Sale thread in The Junkyard.
