My MR Y-Wing

Thank you. I haven't been this jazzed in a while - this baby is ALL for me.. Sadly, the Y is just too heavy for the wall-mount Panavise, so I have to use a floor-stand mount.

At the rate people are customizing these things to a higher and higher level I half expect to see one actually fly.

It's a whole lotta work. Dunno if it's worth it, but it'll bug me if I don't add the lights, you know?

All these holiday paries/plans/prep are putting my Y-Wing on the back burner this week, but I did find a little time to complete the engine sub assemblies, add some piping to the parts I removed detail from, and tighten up the seam lines with Apoxie Sculpt. Also mounted the metal mounting rod permanently.

Switch is mostly hidden now - the top will have a greeblie covering the switch itself.

Back edge of wing piping done.

Neck structure is complete.

Going to add that Airfix greeblie to the bottom, as seen on the red Y:

I hope to finish the surface piping this week - then all I have to do is paint and weather.

Impressive...most impressive..

Now there's a guy who knows what he's doing, big time.

This is just such a joy to watch coming together. I shall look forward to the post Christmas updates :)

I also hope 2007 will cut me some slack and I will be able to get some workshop time on my Y-wing and SS Snowspeeder project. Here's hoping.

Have a great model filled Christmas everyone ( and if your 'models' are leggy and blonde then all the better.) :D

Thanks. This is very fun - had to carefully route details off the body (mainly the LEM), and fill in holes here and there, since I'm adding the wheel part and doing my own piping pattern. So I added a heatsink underneath the model kit part, and am using the plastic coated wire that ILM used on the original Y-Wings. Takes a lot longer to bend "perfectly" but I enjoy taking my time, planning the part placement and angles.

There are lots of small embellishments too - added greeblies and I think I might add a wire bundle or fuse box in a few places, like you'd see in a wheel well on a WWII plane.

Thanks, Jerry. Not a whole lot to show off, except I hid the switch with a nice bit of plastic. Just need to cover over the brass rod that peeks out.

EEEEEWWWWWWWWWW.

Now that the holidays are over, I've dug back in. Finished re-doing the vanes on the engines (decided to go with the "other" configuration):

Replacing the Kettenkrad part, too so that there's a more dramatic undercut, and the butt-end of the part is now accurately shaped as well:

Almost finished the pilot helmet, too. I have to add final scratching and weathering to the helmet, finish shading the face, and after the whole bird is painted, add the yellow visor (yellow theater gel).
