My Mad Hatter Thread - Mickey's Trick Or Treat 10-29-2010

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - We May Get Close Up To MH Costume Soon!

Few updates:

The sword came it and it is huge! Very heavy too and not bad for $29.00! Will post pics.

Socks came in and what I thought would be too red is actually not bad. I may try to dull the color down a bit but it is 100% acrylic so it may be difficult.

Started making a sporran pouch with a pattern I found online. It is going to be black and made of leather.

Started cutting out the cantle design and low and behold I had white / black Kanekalon hair for the front.

I was going to order the custom made 8 yard tartan but decided it was too expensive and I would not wear it knowing I am not Roberts/Proberts clan. So I opted for a more economical yet NOT screen accurate. I bought the California Tartan (naturally) but it was a decision making effort between California, Hawaiian, and US Navy. California won!

I like it!

The blue will look nice with the coat and the green will match your eyes! If you ever get prescription colours anyways... if not...well, the kilt is the compensation. I like that it even has a bit of what looks to be a red/orange in it...I think it'll look fantastic and the colour theme is very consistent with and will pull out a lot of the colours the Hatter is known for having. :)

Nice choice!!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - 06-16-10 Mad Hatter Sword and Buttons

54-inch two handed Claymore for only $29.00 plus with a free leather scabbard!! Not SA but it will do for various events that are not too concerned about steel!

I'm 5 feet 11 inches tall so now you can see how tall the sword is at 54 inches!

And my quest is somewhat over for buttons! These are the buttons for the brown coat. I may still seek out something better for button number 2 but this will do for now!

GOOD GOD!!! THe amount of detail you are putting in the costume is amazing. Major props for putting the time into the costume. I went through all 17 threads and didn't once take a break lol Amazing stuff!!!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - 06-16-10 Mad Hatter Sword and Buttons

Thanks mate! I try to put as much detail into the costume even though I said I wasn't on thread post one. See how SA pulls you in? I am just trying to get as detailed as possible so that when not using the costume I can display it on a mannequin.

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - 06-18-10 Mad Hatter Battle Gear FEET!!

The Mad Hatter from the Hightop Clan kicks up his feet after doing battle the Highland way!

CIMG0496.jpg

Yes I do battle in a Very Hungry Caterpillar battle ready shirt AND cargo shorts! My kilt was supposed to be here today but not!:cry

The purple looks black from a distance! Very deceiving in the movie too!
The garter ties should be in soon...hopefully Saturday with the kilt!

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - 06-18-10 Mad Hatter Battle Gear FEET!!

Not shocked you take ballet it was more shocked that I wouldn't have expected that would be something to wear under a kilt (considering usually NOTHING is worn under a kilt by Scots' standards)

The Hatter was smart enough to be prepared. He must've known that futterwacken gives a full flash. XD Please, you be prepared too!!! lol

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - 06-18-10 Mad Hatter Battle Gear FEET!!

Holy Frabjous Day! It is not easy making a sporran let along trying to cut metal to design a cantle!!! The tassels are done and the cantle is done. Now I am designing the sporran pouch in cardboard before cutting and stitching the leather. The hardest part on the cantle is getting the button on top. I may just use a Sam Browne button. Too expensive to buy the ready made stuff.

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - 07-08-10 Sporran and Cantle Input?

So I have finished the cantle and all the pieces for the sporran are cut, punched, and ready for assembly. My question is how do you folks think the sporran is attached to the belt? Most pipers sporrans have a belt loop in the back but how do you attach it with a buckle in the front of the belt? Or is this sporran attached with a sporran chain that attached to the cantle? What do you think? It makes a big difference in design for me because my sporran is actually going to be usable to carry items.

Battlegearvestbuttons-1.jpg

I am basing my design similar to this picture but it will have a snap flap rather than the old style purse clasp. You can see that it has both a belt loop AND eyelets for a sporran chain belt.

Re: My Mad Hatter Thread - 07-08-10 Sporran and Cantle Input?

there are belt loops
i made mine the same way as you (functional)

what you do is you put belt loops on the back and loop the belt through
the belt buckle itself will go in the back

a traditional sporran will have like 2 "D" rings and you attach a chain to each of those and the two chains are attached to a small belt that goes in the back

most Sporrans will have the belt loops in the back to allow for a belt
this is worn as a more every day sort of thing
or into battle to keep the sporran from bouncing around
