Yeah in the commercial they had to use cgi over the visor. Otherwise you would see camera cranes and people on set in the visor instead of a huge crashing ship.
All in all I'm pretty proud of how well this visor came out. Its step up from motorcycle visors. That's for sure.

I wish they didn't have to CGI enhance the visor. As you said, the reflections were an issue.
It was difficult to tell whether it was a real costume or the whole suit was fully CGI.
I know the suit exists, it was just hard to really appreciate the work from that commerical.
I hope you guys film some regular vids of you wearing the suit in normal footage.

Actually its all there. Its just the difference in taking a photo with a phone vs a set that is lit for a scene. The only CGI is on the visor. They did use some color correction so the background matched up. But that's why movie suits look so good. Many artists working on the same thing.
The company that did the CGI has worked on lots of big time movies like Ironman. I think they did a bang up job making the suit look as good as possible.

I went in knowing they would CG the visor, so we had a few replacement ones. One for reference and one that was more of a stunt visor so the actor could see out of and get more needed air.
Even tough the commercial didn't show much of the suit, I think it left the view wanting more. Which I think was the point..
I wish we had more time to shoot some behind the scenes of this project. But it was such a quick turnaround that we just didn't think about it. Plus the suit was made for someone much taller than me.. I just had to fill the gap in a pinch. Long story.. Pretty epic one actually. I'll have to do write up and tell the tail.
I think the guy that wore it at e3 was 6'5 which brought him to 7 feet with the boots and helmet.

No words about how the undersuit was made, then?
Oh I just ordered up a Military grade ballistics hexagon bio weave tech suit in the digi-camo pattern off of amazon. : )
It was a beast of a feat.. It took the longest out of all the suit. Its a custom made fabric that we created in house. That was then used as a skin over a prosthetic muscle suit. Then it was a mix of hand sewing and using an industrial walking foot sewing machine. Then we airbrushed three shades of digicam pattern on it. Not shown below.. this is pre-paint.

I have an issue of game informer th' cover story was on Halo 4 you an your team did an incredibly accurrate job it's drippin' /w/ awesome sauce brah!!!!! th' 405th is gonna have their work cut out for them when it comes ta replicatin' th' under suit for Halo 4 master Chief costumes black leotards isn't gonna cut it anymore lol!!!!cool p
