My Jack Harkness WIP...

OK so with a bit of help from the many threads here I tackled the Vortex Manipulator yesterday. Have a friend who does excellent leather work and he assured me I could do this "simple" bracer. So I said what the heck. I got some sintra and made the "working" part to be the buck for molding the leather. Made the top cover then the part that retains it...dyed it all hand stitched it, and added the brass buttons which after looking at the pics better jacks are glove buttons I guess...but for the first attempt and what I spent in all Im happy.

Now as for the Great Coat and other bits....

I got a Abbyshot Great Coat from a member on the way...with new buttons so Ill be moving them to the correct spots.

I have plenty of blue shirts and my personal USAF long sleeves blue shirt instead of a RAF will due for now but Ill probably pick one up eventually.

And Pleated Grey Pants...

I have doc martins that can be a substitute if I cant find proper CAT boots.

Im about to look for a template for the holster and build one of them myself.

The Webley will be a Denix webley from amazon.

And Ive found a few places for suspenders Im waiting on to get here.

I got a Jabra BT 250 from Ebay not working but I dont need it working to fit the bill it was CHEAP CHEAP...any ideas on making the Torchwood in the mic boom?

More pics to come....

The next go will probably involve the shapeways piece to be cleaner....

Nice Job. I am wondering how you managed to get the leather raised to fit the electronics part in the center of the VM? What Type of Needle did you use to hand stich that? Excellent work, subscribed to watch your progress.

Yeh I hand stitched it...the raised bit was done with using the sintra "electronics" part adding an oval to it in that spot wetting the leather and molding it while it was drying...in order to stich heavy leather like 4/5 oz I used you need a diamond chisel to pop holes in the leather...I added some blue plastic to the middle of the strap and to the left side on top of some more sintra added a gold screen I made from some other junk(Storm Trooper Mouth Screen).

Im planning to make another the MK 2 with less leather around the electronics some more accurate buttons, a lighter leather to get the edges rolled, and possibly LEDs....not sure about the LEDs yet.

Got a little something in the Mail today Jabra BT250 going to try and add the Torchwood to the side...any ideas how to make a piece to add to it as far as the lettering goes? I may try sintra...but not sure if I can get the lettering just right or not...

Went and removed the white stiching as it didnt take dye like the woman at Tandy said it would...Didnt realize it was waxed till I got started. And now I have brown stiching....loads better lookin?

I picked up a brown similar color leather jacket at the goodwill like store here...and started playing with it....Its alot more difficult to do but I got the Shapeways piece on the way for it and some snaps on the way too...few more days for the great coat and the RAF shirt ;)

Fitment of the Large is perfect just the right size I think...I got my suspenders in the mail the other day as well...waiting on an RAF shirt not sure if its going to be the right blue or not...but if not I'll grab a USAF shirt as mine have stripes sewn to them...and I may want to take the coat off sometimes(not really)...going to move the buttons later today I think.

Also looks like Ill have my shapeways pieces soon...probably monday as they dont deliver on base on saturday :/

So yeh Abbyshot Great Coat, USAF blues shirt still has my rank on it as I havent bought a new one for this yet....maroon suspenders and grey ones too from the suspender store....My old doc martins which are closer to the luke boot then any Cat boot...not sure if I'll shell out monies for the Gunnison or not. My home made VM(shapeways pieces shipped yesterday WHHOOOOT) and my Jabra ear piece....plan to go with plantronics possibly next week they cheap on amazon and I think I can make the add on with some pens and old paint brushes I have sitting here.

The USAF is definitely the way to go, and if you bring it to a tailor they'll probably fix the pocket flaps for you for under $20. Besides the pocket flaps, the pockets on the RAF shirt don't have pleats, the color and fabric are wrong, darker buttons, and it has a box pleat instead of a french front. The only thing the RAF shirt does right is the pocket flaps. As for the boots, don't waste money on the Gunnisons. They're basically just close enoughs for the Miracle Day boots. Why shell out the same money for a close enough?

Ordered a Denix Webley, theres a guy who has an auction and buy it now type thing on ebay...Wells8779 his auction is for 68 so on the buy it now I offered 70 he denied it and I asked why bother denying it when you have an auction for 68 and he gets an attitude about his business practices and such...and its not a mom and pop store from 1955! Guess hes never heard of price matching. As theres Amazon, other ebayers etc that sell the same item. So went with his competitor on ebay. Stay away from the Wells guy complete jerk.

Yeh, was thinking about that...but dont know where theyre coming from sometimes stuff ships from china and takes a month or so...Id rather buy from an american. Theres probably a way to see where they are on amazon but its not right there on the FS part
