My hybrid Hugh Jackman Avenger Wolverine (UPDATE 3/12)

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build.

Question, doesn't the bleach ruin the material if you are trying to dye it? The belt below also comes in black.

Not exactly. Using the olive drab belt worked great for me. What I did was fill a bucket with very hot water. Then add two full cups of bleach, and soak the belt in the bucket for 15 minutes. Take it out and immediately put it in the washer. Then repeat until you reach the desired color.

It took a few dunks, but I got the color I wanted. Just make sure you definitely put it in the washer once it's been soaked in the bucket so that the bleach doesn't eat through the fabric.

This is going to be INCREDIBLE to see finished!!!!!
Just saw Les Miserables last night, so seeing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is such a change lol (although that's the first role i knew him as)

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build.

Yeah...bleaching can destroy your belt! It weakens almost all fabrics (I destroyed a nomex flight suit I bleached and re-dyed for a Fett costume build) and a lot depends on the thread used originally...cotton, very poor, nylon much better, but still risky. Also to dye something yellow or gold you have to get the fabric back to white before dying. Better to use fabric paint. Sometimes you can find a spraycan color for auto upholstery(use a Q-tip with acetone to remove color from snaps if desired) to make application easier or go to a craft store an buy the jar or bottle fabric paint. Be aware that you can find both opaque and translucent paints. There is also an airbrush type.
Finally if you want more sheen, less texture, try spray Plastidip, although for a better "gold match" you can mix a small amount of red with the yellow and you will arrive at a school bus yellow or gold to some folks. If that is your choice,be sure to start with like 2 drops red per 4 ounces yellow. You can always add more red but to back up to a more yellow shade requires 10 times the yellow! Always start with the least amount of the darker more vivid color you can,mix very well and remember the color will always dry darker than when wet. The toughest part of covering any shade or color, except white, is that to get a uniform, non streaky paint job, you almost have to have an under primer of white as all yellow paint by definition is semi-transparent. In my experience it is the fussiest to apply well. The reason I earlier suggested spray paint is that brush stroke overlaps are more obvious without a pure white base. After you've done this a few times you'll get the idea. If you want to save angst, try your paint job first on similar fabric of the same color or just do the inside of the belt first; you won't see it if it doesn't work out. Best of luck, I'm sure it'll be killer when you finish!

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build.

P.S. meant to add, if you mix the Plastidip you will be stuck using brush on type, not spray obviously.

If I didn't have the body to pull this off, I'd get the pants, but I'm not so I'm getting the tight stuff made to show off the legs to the ladies :love

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build.

So here is the final mock up of the top portion. No need to sketch the bottoms because they are pretty much all just diamond patterned neoprene. The circle is where the X logo will be going.

I like your design, especially the high collar, of all the waist coats and vests I found readily available online none of them had the right collar. This is one of those costumes that will succeed or fail depending totally on your physique so I hope you can pull it off, make sure you've got a tann as well for your convention/photo shoot/fancy dress party. Logan is always depicted as having bronze skin and it'll show off your guns better as well.

On that note, what can you bench?

Have you chosen a brand of cigar yet? (doesn't matter if you smoke or not if you're gonna do a convincing Logan you have to smoke at least one fat cigar).

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build. (New pic page 2)

225lbs last time I did. I'm 5'8"

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build. (New pic page 2)

Good one! To me that's 102kilograms, which is a good amount for a Logan physique. I'm 5.8 also, it's the right height for a comic wolverine. It really annoyed me when they got a six foot actor to play him, there are so few short super heroes, it's a shame Hollywood changed him. How are your side burns by the way? I'm in the forces so only get to grow mine during holidays which is disappointing.

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build. (New pic page 2)

HAHA Wait, I think there is some confusion, I WEIGH 155-160, I bench 225. If i weighed 225, I'd be fat haha. To give you an idea about my physique, I have the same build as Hugh in Origins, just on a 5'8 frame if that makes sense. I rock the same chop style and get a lot of **** for it, been actually fired from my bouncing job because I wouldn't shave them off!

UPDATE: This thread will come to a halt for at least 4 weeks because I'm still waiting on the suit designer to find the right tone of yellow/gold that I want. That means the cowl is on hold too because I still have to send Reevz the yellow/gold swatch to match it up. Stay tuned.

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build. (New pic page 2)

Sorry bad grammar on my part, I ment to write, a 102kg bench press would give you the correct physique for wolverine. Is it possible to get your seamstress to send progress pics, it'd be good publicity for them?

Heheh....Oh....I dunno....I'm 90kg now, but while I was training "properly" a couple of years back I was about 100 kilos....10-15% bodyfat....Not especially "fat"......Right now I'm light...Was down to 85kg about a year back...(due to work/life and not eating much) but my usual weight is about 85 ish....Off and on....

I'm 5'8" too....

Since I stopped visiting the gym I can't bench except at home, and Japanese houses aren't really set up to help 100+kg Benching.....So I stick with the 90kg for reps and keep it light (keep my floor from collapsing)...Works for me...

Cool design Bub! And let me know what you decide for the cigar too! If you really can't find any decent ones there let me know? I could take the label off and send a decent Cuban over I suspect...Might be stopped, and you'd need a humidifier to get it back to life...But it's another choice eh?

Regards..

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build. (New pic page 2)

@Bats, yeah, she said she was going to send me progress pics soon. But she's got to get the gold and yellow in. My diamond neoprene is already on order.

@Fifth, not really. Prob won't have one, I used to smoke cigars of various types but I quit. I'm a health freak is why.

Anybody got a good website where they sell ammo pouches and belts for cheap? Can't really find any.

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build. (New pic page 2)

Go to viper.com they sell a whole security belt fully rigged very cheap. Or go second hand off eBay my advice. The sale sections on air soft websites are often a gold mine if you're not to fussy about quality.
Or head down to your local army surplus, I love those places, shelves crammed to overflowing, bargin bins and manniquins wearing mismatch uniform and a gas mask.

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build. (New pic page 2)

I think this will be just awesome :D I think the mere idea of Wolverine in the MCU and how they would do it is highly intriguing.

Re: The "what if" Hugh Jackman Wolverine Avenger build. (New pic page 2)

Just an update to keep you guys interested, my suit designer just sent me a photo of the gold...It looks exactly as it does in the photo so she says, nice and toned down, nothing overly bright or dark. This will also be the color of the gold in the cowl I'll be getting from Reevzfx :)
